Andy Richter Tells the Real Story of Conan Going to TBS

Andy Richter’s account of Conan going to TBS in this month’s GQ is quite a bit different than Bill Carter’s, but I mean, who are you going to believe? Andy was there, man. Here’s how it starts:

The springtime sun was shining when I entered the room, and Conan was standing by the window in his study, surveying his vast ostrich ranch in the rugged hills of El Segundo. I had urgent news. “Conan,” I said, “it’s all settled. The Burbank Syndicate is buying off your contract. It’s quite a substantial sum, and most importantly, you’re free! You don’t have to do this anymore! It couldn’t have worked out better!”
