Johnny Knoxville and Andy Samberg to Join the Farrelly Brothers' Three Stooges?

This whole Farrelly Brothers Three Stooges movie…I just don't know, guys. Once they lost their hot-shot A-list cast for it (Sean Penn, Benecio Del Toro, Jim Carrey), it seemed like it might have been a good idea to put the thing to bed. Hell, even with that cast it seemed like a questionable idea. But they're soldiering on, for better or worse, and the latest rumors put Johnny Knoxville, Andy Samberg and Australian comic Shane Jacobson on the shortlist to play the Stooges. OK.

I preferred the idea of them casting unknowns who look a lot like who they'll be playing; I can't imagine seeing Andy Samberg playing Curly as anything but Andy Samberg playing Curly.

But I guess here's the upshot: essentially nobody in their target audience has any experience with the Three Stooges. They've got a blank slate to work with here, so I guess they might as well go nuts. I mean, if the folks behind comic book movies are OK ignoring the nasally bitching of comic book nerds, think of how much easier it will be to ignore the tens and tens of Three Stooges diehards that will complain about this. I think I might actually prefer this cast. Not that I'm a particular fan of any of them, but the original cast just seemed like it was about names more than about making a good movie. And lets be honest, Toro, Carrey and Penn are A-List in name, but definitely not ticket sales.

I've seen enough bad Stoogies "tributes," I couldn't care less who's in the movie (the unknowns idea actually is intriguing, but seriously, you aren't going to Penn & Carrey to two guys off the street), as long as the Farrelly Brothers' make the movie funny (e.g. Not Fever Pitch).

Here's the correct casting: Bobby Moynihan, Eugene Cordero and Charlie Sanders. Buffoons!
