Seth MacFarlane to Reboot, Ruin The Flintstones

Apparently, Fox has gotten the rights from Hanna-Barbera for Seth MacFarlane to remake The Flintstones for them. I'm sure his remake will be tasteful and respectful of the source material, and what results will surely be better than the original. Right? Right guys?!?! [via]

I thought there was already a Flintstones reboot from Seth MacFarlane. I think it was called Family Guy?

Hey people that wield awesome power and are allowed to do anything they want. The things you grew up adoring were great, focus on making something new.

    Let's leave well enough alone.

McFarlane, while lazy, is too smart and talented to fuck something like this up by doing Family Guy Part 3 (American Dad broke away from the model after a couple seasons). I'd like to see if it's more like the cartoons made for children but with adult sensibilities that he wrote for: Cow & Chicken, Dexter's Lab, and Johnny Bravo.

Is The Flintstones really that much of a cherished show to begin with? I can't imagine anyone really thinks McFarlane is messing with the legacy of some great piece of comedy history here.

@cooldude69 I'm sure he'll think of all sorts of clever ways for humans to use dinosaurs as everyday tools, and for the dinosaur to say "Ehhh, it's a living!". I don't understand why there's such reverence for a show that wasn't ever that funny. Old doesn't always mean funny, it just means old.

I'm no fan of MacFarlane, but the Flintstones have been rebooted several times and many of those iterations have been so bad that I can't imagine he could do any worse. Can he top the spinoff where Pebbles and Bam-Bam are teenagers with a band who solve mysteries?* Can he outawful The Flintstones Meet The Jetsons? He's got quite a task ahead of him.

*(This is every Hanna-Barbara show from the late 70s.)
