Alison Brie and Gillian Jacobs Take Cheesecake Pictures for GQ

okWell, here's a picture of Community's Alison Brie and Gillian Jacobs in lingerie acting out a "lesbian scene" for GQ. There's a video as well. It's the comedy issue, which also has a scantily clad Mila Kunis on the cover. The year of Women in Comedy continues, I guess? Don't worry, I hear there's a picture of Joel McHale giving Donald Glover a reacharound in the issue as well to balance things out.

This is so weird to me. What is the rationale behind them doing this? Don't get me wrong; I love pictures of women funning around in their undies, but this just strikes me as "off." I guess I just imagine being one of them & being asked to do this shoot & saying "No thanks, I'm a wealthy talented actress; I don't feel like being in a photo shoot that will be exclusively used as a masturbatory aid."

@rob delaney@twitter Yeah, it's definitely a weird thing. It's certainly up to them whether or not they want to do a shoot like this, but I don't like that it seems like in order for a funny woman to get in a mag like this they need to also do jerkoff fodder for teenage boys. They're both so great, but this is just a distraction from why they're great.

@rob delaney@twitter I'm guessing that Yvette Nicole Brown was the one who turned this down.

Obviously there are the standard men's magazine "sexy photo" trappings with Mila & the Community actresses, but it is DEFINITELY not true that "in order for a funny woman to get in a mag like this they need to also do jerkoff fodder for teenage boys." If you looked inside the issue you would find a piece by Morgan Murphy, a profile of Melissa McCarthy, and contributions from Maya Rudolph, Rose Byrne, and Kristen Wiig.

@lb12 That's fair, I haven't seen the full issue yet. My bad.

@Adam Frucci why are they so great? they certainly aren't funny on the level of fey/bamford/poehler etc… They're on Community because they are HOT AS SHIT.

the same can be said for Joel McHale.

I see no problem with this, Delaney is a prude.

    • HerooftheBeach

@Adam Frucci Not only does this have nothing to do with what makes them great, but they don't look like themselves. They've been boiled down to the lowest common denominator "GQ hot women" that they don't even have the charisma or personality that made them appealing to us in the first place.

Is Alison Brie hot? Yeah, of course, but she's also incredibly charming, and that's why everyone has a crush on her (and it's also a lot of her comedic appeal). But she's not charming here. She's anybody.

Alison is wearing some cute undies but why? And there better be Joel McHale giving Donald Glover a reacharound ON THE NEXT PAGE or GQ kind of deserves several punches.

Often you'll see male comedians in comedy issues doing funny "sexy" naked poses that are meant to make you laugh. This is just like that! oh wait.

There is NOTHING funnier than a really hot girl in lingerie. NOTHING!
Is this really a "Lesbian scene"? I've never seen ladies on The L Word act like this. Also I feel like they're both prettier than this picture makes them look. Great job GQ – you made them look bad in every possible way!

Everyone please go away for the next five minutes. I'll be done by then.

Oh Trudy Campbell… I would be so much better for you than that crapweasel Pete. *sigh*

@lb12 You have to admit that female comedians are usually dressed up like this: http://30.media.tumblr.com/tumblr_ljxptnUqf11qddqu1o1_500.jpg and this: http://images.huffingtonpost.com/gen/149797/TINA-FEY-ESQUIRE.jpg
in these kinds of magazines. Melissa McCarthy is the exception to a LOT of rules regarding female comedians and how they are viewed and portrayed.

    • lb12

@Feedittomygoldfish Totally. I mean, it's a men's magazine. Sexy photos are to GQ as carbohydrates are to bread. And that might be something to complain about (but it's not exclusive to the comedy issue, or to GQ) I only objected to the notion that we ONLY cover funny women who pose sexily.

Unless this is some sort of meta joke based on the awesome 30 Rock episode where Liz shows up for a "comedy issue" and it turns out they just want her and Jenna to act sexy, this photo shoot is just insulting. Don't get me wrong, there's nothing wrong with an actress wanting to show off how good she looks in sexy lingerie, but that's not what's going on here. In a "comedy issue" of a magazine they should be focusing on the fact that these ladies are funny, talented comedians, not the fact that they can look sexy while recreating a famous Betty Page picture.
