Jay Leno's Casey Anthony Joke Met With Eerie Silence

Well, it's like the old comedy saying I just made up goes: no one said it was easy to get multiple laughs off a child murder trial. That being said, seeing as how late-night shows typically implement a hype man, crowd instructions and you know, an editing process, it's pretty jarring to see an on-air joke met with total studio silence. Last night during Jay Leno's monologue, a joke comparing the Casey Anthony jury to Obama's economic team didn't get a peep from the audience, causing Jay to think his mic had cut out. Nope. So he told the joke again and the crowd went wild. Maybe someone punched the side of the Applause sign, Fonzi-style.

I'm sure that the second telling is completely sweetened with canned laughter. And I bet they left the weird reaction in so it would look like "We don't edit! See" but the laughter at that joke didn't sound like the laughter at other jokes.

While it pains me to defend Leno, you can hear his microphone give off some feedback while he says, "Obama's economic team…", which may have thrown people off.

Love you Jay, but jokes having anything to do with Casey Anthony are in very poor taste and not funny at all!!!!! :(

Everything is funny in the proper context. You can make jokes about anything.
