The Onion Could Make The Move To Chicago

Noooooooooo! According to The Huffington Post, apparently The Onion may relocate to Chicago as soon as next summer. Onion staffers confirm that an announcement was made this week indicating that the newspaper's print and online editorial operation is headed to the Windy City. "There's no indication of what's going to happen next," Features Editor Joe Garden explained. "I don't think the writers have come to a consensus. Everybody is a little bit blindsided, and there are those who are determined to stay in New York." The staff allegedly found out about the move on Tuesday, and have most likely spent the last 48 hours curled in a hyperventilating ball.

What's the big deal? They probably want to save money by being in the same offices as the AV Club.

a lot of people who live in new york and are comedy writers who have limited means dont want to move cross-country. that's why it sucks for them internally. externally, im sure halle, as a comic and a writer herself says "NOOOO" like that because it's kind of a bragging rights type of thing to have such a comedy institution in the NYC.

with that said, i'm in chicago not NYC, and my roommate and i love writing, comedy, the onion, and having new jobs. BRING IT.

Chicago has plenty of able comedy writers and on top of that a lot comedic outlets for any writers moving there. It's a shame that people think they can't do comedy outside of New York or L.A. Chicago has vibrant scene that is open to improv, sketch, and stand-up.

@Swedish Detective “It’s a shame that people think they can't do comedy outside of New York or L.A.” Indeed! It’s not like they moved from the midwest—Madison, WI & Chicago, IL—to New York City 10 years ago? Oh, wait…
