Allen Gregory Is "Certain to Be Cancelled"

According to the ratings gurus over at TV by the Numbers, Jonah Hill's animated series Allen Gregory is "now certain to be cancelled." Fox hasn't made any formal announcements, but based on the dwindling ratings — 3.1 million people watched it this past Sunday — it seems as good as done. With Bob's Burgers set to come back at mid-season with a full set of 22 episodes, it seems reasonable enough to expect it to fill in for Gregory once it's officially shown the door. Apparently, there's concern that Gregory is doing so poorly that it's dragging down the entire 9pm block. Yikes. Clearly, only the Belchers and some brilliant burger puns can save the 9pm hour.

I wanted to like this show, but the main character and his father are so freaking obnoxious and irritating.

And next year we'll have the sure-to-be-cancelled Napoleon Dynamite animated series. I'm sure my information's a little off as I stopped watching FOX after they cancelled my beloved King of the Hill. Dang it.

Jonah Hill is usually a pretty reliable, funny guy. This was a huge misstep though. I really gave the show a shot, but it was just so unfunny and uncomfortable (not in the good awkward way, more in the "please spare me" way). Better luck next time.

I tried to give it a chance, but it really wasn't that funny. None of the characters are likeable at all, even in a "these guys are horrible, but I can't stop watching" It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia kind of way. That, and I couldn't help shaking the feeling that the father character was a poorly done rip-off of Dr. Venture from Venture Brothers.

I always felt like the father was a ripoff of the dean from Community…maybe he is Dr. Venture doing his best dean impression.
