Will Project X Be "The New Superbad"?

Here's the trailer for Project X, a new comedy about "a group of buds who set out to throw the most epic 17th birthday party ever." Righteous, dude! It's directed by The Hangover's Todd Phillips, and is shot at least in part using footage from the characters' digital cameras. Sounds a lot like The Virginity Hit, which didn't do wonderfully in theaters. But maybe Project X will do better? It doesn't look particularly funny, but test audiences are calling it "the new Superbad" and "American Pie on steroids," so maybe the movie is way, way better than its trailer. We'll find out in March.

Todd Phillips actually produced it, not directed it.
And based on the trailer, I'm not even sure how this is a comedy. I'm sure there will be some funny dialogue and what not, but riots and whatnot aren't too humorous.

The reason superbad was so good was that the 2 main characters were so down to earth. The parties were believable and so was the dialogue. This just looks like every other teen wild party movie.

there are no jokes in this trailer, just another case of todd philips wanted to be cool by having slow motion shots of pretty people with awful club music in the background, well at least it wasnt wolfmothers 'woman' this time

I don't think anyone expected The Virginity Hit to do much. It seems like one of those projects that was filmed and then shelved indefinitely until its star happened to get a prominent role on a pretty successful Nick show. They might as well throw it out there and buy some cheap ad slots on the internet in hopes that fans of the show would let them make at least a little money back.

God, this trailer stresses me out. Do all kids look like they're on Skins now? This shit makes me want stay home on Friday night reading Harry Potter and never having a boyfriend.

Yeah I can see all of the ugly dudes in the background, but where are the ugly chicks? Unless they all go to a modeling/not-wearing-any-clothes high school. It's like a science high school, but for that other stuff…
