Hulu Plus Buys Digital Syndication Rights to Community

All three seasons of Community will soon be available exclusively on Hulu's subscription service, Hulu Plus. Good news for the three people who have Hulu Plus, I guess.

Why can't they buy the rights to 6 more seasons and a movie?

To me it sounds like more than just good news for Hulu Plus subscribers. Syndication brings in money to keep the show afloat. Also Hulu is pretty good about marketing the shows they profit from the most. And having all the episodes online, even if it's just for Hulu Plus subscribers, means that more people can catch up on the show from the earlier (still fantastically awesome) episodes. And let's face it, Community's target demographic are much more likely to have a $10 Hulu Plus subscription than a $40+ cable hookup.

But also, yes, six seasons and a movie!!!

Way to shoot yourself in the foot, Sony. Hulu Plus probably gave them a little more money right now but Netflix would have given them more eyeballs, which could potentially translate into better ratings in the here and now.

There's no guarantee Netflix could raise Community's fortunes, but I've never even met a Hulu Plus subscriber. Stupid, stupid.
