It's Never Too Early for a 21 Jump Street Sequel

21 Jump Street isn't coming out until March 16, but Jonah Hill says that he and Michael Bacall are "writing the sequel now," having been given a green light from the studio. Seems a bit like putting the sequel cart before the movie horse, if you know what I mean. But if things like focus groups and press screenings can give a studio a good enough idea of how the movie will do in theaters even before it's released to know whether a sequel is called for, more power to them. And their terrifying, ticket-sale predicting powers of clairvoyance. (Someone write a movie about that! And then immediately write a sequel.)

The working cut I saw a few months ago was pretty funny. I had no desire to see the movie, but I never say no to a free screening. It definitely seems like the kind of movie that'd do well enough and then falter in sequel.
