The Best Sitcom Episode of All Time Tournament: We Have Our Elite Eight

Round two of the Best Sitcom Episode of All Time Tournament has come to a close, and we're now down to just eight episodes in contention from an original pool of 32. This round actually had more blowouts than the last round — the real heavyweights emerged. But don't expect that to be the case next week during round three, when we'll have such battles as Seinfeld's "The Contest" up against tourney favorite "Marge vs. the Monorail." And Community still has two episodes in the tournament, but we'll see if it manages to hold its own against the Arrested Development juggernaut.

In any case, on to the results!

I'm the Community recapper for this here website, but even I must question: COMMUNITY OVER UK OFFICE??? You've got some explaining to do, 67.9% of the population.

@Joshua Kurp If Community beats Arrested Development I may shut the site down.

I do like UK Office, but there are definitetly times where I think its been built up too much. I do think UK Office beats the other Community episode if they were pitted against each other, me, I just vote based on who does the summary.

The South Park episode made me do a spit take the first time I saw it, its basically the closest thing I have to my father's shock finding out Darth Vader was Luke's father.

@Joshua Kurp Shut up, Josh. This Josh belongs to ME.

One of the best eps of the UK office and it loses to a show about paintball?? A complete travesty.

We're all going to feel REAL weird if the final is Community v. Community. So let's try to avoid that, cool?

I'm fine with Community beating UK Office, even if it is just out of frantic loyalty to a show that needs to come back on TV sooner than later.

I don't get the Remedial Chaos Theory winning over Party Down though. That episode is AMAZING and Remedial Chaos Theory is pretty polarizing with how gimmicky it is (a good number of friends of mine hate how often Community pays hommage to other genres and shows). I like them both, but I think Party Down's episode had better writing that focused on a side of the characters we hadn't seen before without an inter-dimensional device.

I'm sad there's no Always Sunny in here anymore.

If you vote for Seinfeld next week, just know you're breaking Phil Hartman's heart. Just know that, and cope however you can, you monsters.

  • grinning

@Piss Cop – Dont you dare take Phil Hartman's name in vain.

Now Miguel Sanchez, you can say whatever you want about that dunderpate.

oh, the Office UK didn't win? fuck this site

I love a lot of these shows, don't get me wrong… but Arrested Development wins funniest episode of anything ever just on principle. COME ON!

  • naughtysneaky

I'm betting that either "The Contest" or "Pier Pressure" will take all. Community is beloved but too new to win it, I think–and I hope people don't vote it in for final winner just because the show is beleaguered. The Contest has enduring name recognition as a brilliant half-hour of TV, and I would argue that it resolves all of its plotlines with more equal punch than "Pier Pressure"…but based on my guess of how old everyone is here I'm leaning towards Arrested Development.

The Simpsons really has just too many great episodes to even qualify for something like this. How can you choose!?
