Tom Papa Is Going to Give TBS the Naked Truth

IFC's not the only network working up new shows with standup comics. TBS has ordered a pilot for Naked Truth, a series hosted by Tom Papa that will feature a different panel of three comedians in each episode, where they'll "discuss and riff on topics in the zeitgeist, stories big and small, all with a comedic twist." On the one hand, watching comedians hang out and riff off each other's bits is usually a lot of fun. On the other hand, the last we heard from Tom Papa was the truly horrible Marriage Ref on NBC, which managed to make Jerry Seinfeld and Tina Fey unappealing and not very funny. Hopefully TBS will do a better job with the panel format.

It sounds like another version of "Comics Unleashed with Byron Allen" except with a non-white host. (Zing.)

That's awesome, I heard Tom on his XM radio show "Come To Papa" discussing the Marriage Ref, and how they had it "almost right." When asked how he would tweak it to make it exactly right, he said "Get rid of the married couples and just have the entertainers sitting around talking." Sounds like that was more than just a fleeting idea!

I didn't see Marriage Ref, but Papa's a funny guy.
