Dan Harmon and Chevy Chase Are in the Middle of an Ugly Public Feud

Despite the improving ratings, things aren't all paintballs and imaginariums in the world of Community. Series creator Dan Harmon and Chevy Chase are in the middle of a relatively public feud, one that involved Chevy walking off set on the last day of shooting, Harmon insulting him in a speech during the wrap party in front of his family, and Chase leaving an expletive-filled voicemail for Harmon that Harmon then played in front of an audience at a show in LA. It's a mess!

Both Harmon and Chase have reputations for being difficult to work with, so it's not entirely surprising that the two would butt heads — apparently, Chase has walked off set a few times before. What remains to be seen is what this means for Chase's involvement in a potential season four, which is looking more and more like it's going to happen. One would like to think that cooler heads will prevail, or at least a realization of mutual dependence, and they can get past this and back to making what will inevitably end up as a bunch of animated gifs on Tumblr together next fall. Stay together for the gif makers, guys!

Meh. He doesn't add anything to the show for me. I doubt I'd notice if he left.

    • itsonreserve

@Slutface I'd have to agree. I wouldn't be mad to see Peirce's funeral open the next season, with Leonard trying to angle for new "study group old man." Peirce is a funny character, but not irreplaceable like any of the others.

    • Slutface

@itsonreserve I actually think Leonard would be funnier!

You would think Chevy would wake up each morning and kiss his dwindling "Vacation" residual checks that Dan Harmon has helped make him relevant to a whole new audience. Chevy, see your future, be your future. May, make, make it, make it.

So, has Pierce pulled ahead of Annie's Boobs in the "a character will die" sweepstakes?

    • itsonreserve

@Agent M Ooh, maybe. I was guessing Starburns since Dino Stamatopoulis might have gotten another writing gig in light of the shows ratings, but Annie's Boobs' funeral might be hilariously amazing.

  • regisphilbdog

This seems like a publicity stunt to me…

  • Mike Melvin@facebook

@itsonreserve pretty sure Dino doesn't actually write for Community (xmas special notwithstanding), and i would think he's pretty busy running Starburns Industries anyway.

    • itsonreserve

@Mike Melvin@facebook He's only got the one written by, but I'm pretty sure he's still a room guy for the show. Presumably because he focuses more on Frankenhole, etc.

@Mike Melvin@facebook Dino's been credited as a consultant for most of the show's run. He's been steadily writing for other series the whole time Community's been on the air.

Not surprised to see the commenters largely rushing to defend their precious Harmon against mean old man Chevy. From what I read in that link, it looks like both of them are potentially at fault.

And not for nothing, Chevy's involvement is the reason why I (and undoubtedly many others) first gave Community a shot when it began.

    • itsonreserve

@I'm Gary@twitter Meh. Chevy's talent is waining, and he's long been known to be a elitist, sexist jackass. They both seem like kind of dillholes, but I'm throwing my support behind the dillhole who once admitted the value in women writers and seems like his talent is rising as opposed to falling.

    Team Chevy

I stand shoulder to shoulder with Dan Harmon in this, his time of turmoil.

I don't care if he kicks a baby panda in the eye. I'm a Harmon man through and through. He's my pope.

  • brosefk

Harmon is this generation's Klaus Kinski.

    Respect that, fools!
