Conan's Producing a New Pete Holmes Talk Show

Conan O'Brien is producing a new talk show to be hosted by beloved comedian/frequent smiler Pete Holmes. The show is being described as a "slight departure from the typical talk-show format," which could mean anything: maybe Pete is standing the whole time – maybe there's no actual talking, so all interviewing is done solely by body language – maybe Pete will wear an eyepatch. This is like the 70th show Conan is producing for TBS, including a couple sitcoms and Deon Cole's video clip show. Conan sure keeps it crispy.

I want a show that's Pete Holmes and John Mulaney just walking around and being really nice to people and brightening their day.

Awesome news, although i'm more looking forward to the possibility of a Norm Macdonald show.

This could easily be cancelled in a couple weeks, due to not being funny.
Pete seems like he's great to see live – he gets the audience juiced, he's got an on-switch comparable only to Robin Williams, as noted by Jeff Garlin on that one Doug Loves Movies.
Honestly, though, I don't really know this guy other than someone who shows up on DLM and spits bits like he just did the fattest line of coke this side of Bruce Vilanch in the 90s. He's the guest who always starts singing some fuckin' song, and it's so unfunny for ten seconds as he amps the live crowd up with his rendition of whatever his running joke is going to be that night. And he is bitty as hell.
None of this translates to a television presence. He's lucky that it will come and go quickly, and won't be hyped, and that he is apparently a nice guy with a lot of friends, or it would torpedo his career.
