Christopher Guest Casts His New Comedy with Exactly Who You'd Expect Him to Cast

It’s been six long years since Christopher Guest’s last comedy, For Your Consideration, but he’s finally back behind the camera for a new HBO/BBC2 series called Family Tree, which sees Guest working in the mockumentary format that he’s done so well with in the past. The Hollywood Reporter, um, reports that Fred Willard, Michael McKean and Ed Begley Jr., all members of the Christopher Guest Repertory Company, have signed on for recurring roles, which begs the question: “Where are Eugene Levy, Harry Shearer, and Catherine O’Hara?”

It was announced last month that Family Tree would center around Tom Chadwick (played by Bridesmaids’ Chris O’Dowd), who, after getting fired from his job and dumped by his girlfriend, inherits a box of belongings from a great aunt that sets him off on a journey to learn about his family of weirdos. Ed Begley Jr. will play Chris O’Dowd’s weirdo uncle, Fred Willard will play his weirdo neighbor, and Michael McKean will play his weirdo dad.

That's all well and good, but WHO WILL JOHN MICHAEL HIGGINS PLAY?

I have been a die hard fan since Guffman, but For Your Consideration was abysmal. I sincerely hope he recaptures the magic. Maybe the time off will have helped. Chris o'Dowd is a nice addition, in a way that #@^%! Ricky Gervais was not in the last one.
