'Louie,' 'Key & Peele,' 'Girls' and 'Parks and Rec' Amongst this Year's WGA Awards Nominees

The Writers Guild of America announced its TV nominations yesterday, and unlike a lot of awards shows (say, the Emmys), the WGA actually recognized most of the great comedies on TV. The 2013 WGA Awards are set to go down on February 17th with simultaneous ceremonies in New York and Los Angeles. This year, new and newish series like GirlsPortlandia, Key & Peele, Girls, and Veep all scored their first WGA nominations, while old favorites fared well too. Comedy-wise, Modern Family led the pack with 4 nominations, followed by The Simpsons (3), Parks and Recreation (2), 30 Rock (2), and Girls (2).

Read the full list of comedy nominations below. If you want to know who's nominated for "Best Writing for a Daytime Drama" or any non-comedy bullshit like that, you're gonna have to go elsewhere:

why does judd apatow have first billing on Girls?? wtf?

    • IdealizedSalt

Because his last name starts with 'A'. Seems to be alphabetical.

  • IdealizedSalt

It seems the WGA has never seen Archer, Bob's Burgers, Adventure Time, American Dad, or Venture Brothers, because the animation category is fucking atrocious.

Wow, I love how strong variety has gotten this past year. I mean, Daily Show will probably win, but 8 different shows nominated is insane.

But animation and episodic comedy are meh. Were Modern Family and The Simpsons (both shows I love) really that much better than everything else this year?
