Funny or Die Is Expanding into Movies

Funny or Die, the web video and TV enterprise created by Will Ferrell, Adam McKay, and Chris Henchy, will begin producing movies, according to The Hollywood Reporter. With the goal of making two to three low-budget movies a year, Funny or Die has partnered with producer Scott Steindorff (Love in the Times of Cholera, The Lincoln Lawyer) to produce films written by, starring, and directed by its usual stable of comedians. This is great news for the website and for fans of amazing comedy, in general, because over the last few years, Funny or Die has amassed a talented and eclectic stable of comedic filmmakers and writers who are sure to pull off a smooth transition to making hilarious, weird movies. Funny or Die successfully expanded to producing TV shows over the past two years with Fuse's Billy on the Street, HBO's Funny or Die Presents (which ran after two seasons), and a Drunk History series on the way from Comedy Central. THR heavily compares Funny or Die's latest move to humor magazine National Lampoon's expansion to film in the '70s, with Steindorff furthering the comparison by saying, "The hope is that in one of the two or three movies, we find the next Animal House or breakaway comedy." Funny or Die CEO Dick Glover adds, "We're not looking to find some scripts and make just a bunch of movies. We're looking to enhance the brand though this venture." Finding the next Animal House is a pretty ambitious goal, but a "Clip Cup" movie just could be it.
