Gallagher Said Racist Stuff on a Podcast Again

Fruit-smashin' comedian Gallagher is up to his racist antics again. Gallagher made his second podcast guest appearance that got heated after he said a lot of terrible racist stuff, following a spectacular episode of WTF with Marc Maron in 2011 in which Gallagher walked off mid-interview after Maron called him out on being awful. On the latest episode of Probably Science, which was taped in front of a live audience with guest Peter Serafinowicz and hosts Matt Kirshen and Andy Wood, Gallagher went off the rails.

You can listen to the episode, which host Matt Kirshen now calls his "personal Vietnam," here (the racism starts in at the 39:30 mark) or read about what happened below:

After Gallagher started talking about his idea to build a dam across the U.S./Mexico border, guest Peter Serafinowicz straight up asked Gallagher, "Do you like Mexicans?" "Well, we've got enough," Gallagher responded. He added, "When you say 'Mexicans,' do you mean the Mexicans that I see on TV that are tall and pretty and handsome, or the little short ones that come to the door and want to work in the backyard?"

Gallagher rambled for a bit about how there are two different types of Mexicans – short ones from Mexico and tall Spanish immigrants – and even got in a weird comment about Native Americans before Serafinowicz asked, "What are you talking about?" Gallagher rambled some more then summed up, "I'm saying the immigrants from Mexico, Honduras, San Salvador are all the same: Short, under five-foot-two." Serafinowicz fired back, "What's your point, though? … What's your fucking point, man?" "You asked me if we have enough Mexicans, and I said we have enough short ones," answered Gallagher.

Following a bit more bickering, the two comedians had this exchange:

GALLAGHER: Where do you live?
SERAFINOWICZ: I live in London, and I'm six-foot-four.
GALLAGHER: Then you don't get to talk about American politics!
SERAFINOWICZ: I get to talk about whatever the fuck I want, actually. I can talk about anything. You don’t have to agree with it .. I just think what you’re saying, it sounds fucking racist …
GALLAGHER: Well, there are races in Mexico. There are Aztec, Incas and the European Spanish,’ Gallagher added.
MATT KIRSHEN: Wanting one lot to come into the country and not the other is pretty much the definition of racist.

A few seconds later, this happened:

SERAFINOWICZ: I don’t like what you were saying there about Mexican people, you know?
GALLAGHER: Well, freedom of speech exists in America, not in England 'cause you guys had a king.
SERAFINOWICZ: Listen man, you say whatever you want.
GALLAGHER: Then why don’t you let me say it? Why are you giving me your opinion?
ANDY WOOD: We're letting you say a lot. We're still not sure what the point was.
GALLAGHER: My point is scientifically, I’ve done an experiment, and I know that only the short people come to America and the tall ones stay there and have successful television shows.
SERAFINOWICZ: I think your point was that you don’t like a certain type of Mexican people. That was your point, I think.

God bless him. Things are way too PC now and it's refreshing to see openly racist/homophobic old assholes like him still willing to speak their minds.

    • Kenneth Edward Polley

What makes you think Gallagher is afraid of homos?

  • DelmarJackson

SERAFINOWICZ should calm down. Once people like him let the Muslims take over the UK everyone knows the Muslims will let in tons of short Mexicans.

    • Nate

      And vice versa!

  • bricko

Great stuff….good for Gallagher. Needs to be said up front….and remember Enoch Powell was right.

  • Brother John

Time was, a sovereign nation had the right to determine who did and did not get to enter into its borders and take up residence. If that was racist, then so be it. There is no evidence anywhere that a society that seeks to remove as much homogeneity as possible can thrive, and any policy that pursues that goal is destructive to the native populace. There is no right to be in or come to the United States by any person not a citizen from any place, at any time.

    • http://www.facebook.com/choochoochinaman Eric Sun

Well most of us here are not bigots, and we hope to preserve that homogeneity.
      Go home Woodrow Wilson.

      • Brother John

Clearly you don't know what homogeneity means. A population that is largely homogenous is not extremely diverse. I'm glad that your conscience is assuaged by not thinking yourself a bigot, but I think it's truly amazing that most people who are interested in importing the world's poverty for the sake of winning elections are also those with enough money to be able to live far away from the problems their decisions cause.

Words like 'bigot' and 'racist' are thrown about by people without a firm grip on reality. Diversity is not a virtue, it is not a strength. It is an obstacle to be overcome, and the more diverse a population, the weaker it becomes facing outside threats and the more divided ("div" appears in both words…) it becomes, stirring up trouble within itself.

If calling me a 'bigot' is all you've got, go home, think hard, and try again.

        • Steve

          hahahahaha

        • http://www.facebook.com/choochoochinaman Eric Sun

More power to you to try and overcome diversity.

        • KillYourself

Just kill yourself, please. We are a country built by immigrants, and to think people like you exist really makes me wish that my family never got off that boat from Ireland. I bet you have a Rebel or Nazi flag hanging up in your room down in your Mom's basement.

          • Brother John

Nice try, but I'm half Irish myself. But I don't buy into the mythology. While I'm thankful to God beyond words and beyond your understanding that my ancestors made it here, I'm also a cold-eyed realist who recognizes the instability created with doors-wide-open immigration. We do not owe the world a living, nor do we owe it a nice place to come and stay a while. Bad poetry by a socialist on the bottom of a French statue does not make for good policy. We and the world will be better off by exporting our founding principles, not by importing poverty and the pathologies that create it.

Clever name, by the way. I really got a chuckle out of it.

          • Benjamin Selassie

At the same time many of the Irish, Italian, and Jewish immigrants came to the country knowingly and legally. I am not anti-immigration. We should actually try to get more asian, African, and Indian, immigrants. There are those who are unique in skill and coming to the US might mean something. It would also be a better rounding of people who come from countries where the situation is just as or more so dire than the one in Mexico.

The Mexico immigration debate is one of laziness and non rational thinking. Reforming the immigration policy is a good idea but to just let people stay who don't have any unique set of skills that cannot be found in any other group isn't progressive as some might say.

If the US wants to help Mexico, it should really end the drug war. The country suffers from massive corruption. That is the debate the Mexicans should address as oppose to a completely illogical demand for citizenship for no reason.

I can only point to the fact that Mexico is on the border as to why no one cares to enforce or even acknowledge there is an immigration policy. I don't dislike Mexican people but it is ludicrous to come to another country and make demands to accommodate one group that isn't even a part of the citizenry. They essentially bullied their way in and coerced a concession.

          • Lie Maid

Telling people to kill themselves because you're too intellectually lazy and insecure to meet the argument is the very definition of fascism and ignorance. Thank fuck voices like yours are finally being seen for the aimless rhetoric they always have been and are being ignored.

        • durrdunn

Considering the very nation that you claim to defend has been quite diverse since its inception, culturally and "racially," I think your argument is pretty lame. What always puzzles me is why neo-nazis stray from their little gated internet communities on to multicultural sites like youtubes or comment sections like this. I thought you were separatists? Play stay true to your ideology and stay away from the humans.

          • Brother John

Since the premise of your reply is neither honest nor accurate, and since the limit of everyone's thinking on this silly little forum seems to be to simply shriek, "racist!" why not have a look at words from Thomas Sowell yesterday. He is a black man, the descendant of actual American slaves (unlike one who shall remain nameless), and who is smarter than all of us. The abstract that begins the article says all you need to know.

            http://spectator.org/archives/2013/06/04/abstract-immigrants

  • maxin.n.relaxin

What the eff is going on in this comment section??!? Splitsider comment sections are racist too???

    • KillYourself

That is pretty much what Im getting from this. "Good for him"? Wow, it's good to know that I live in a country that immigrants built and then are forced out because of ignorant ass white people. Half this country just needs to Jonestown itself and let the rest of us be happy.

      • Putz III

Blah blah blah. Stop hating whitey and grow up.

        • Kenneth Edward Polley

Stop committing crimes Kunta and maybe earn some respect!

      • Lie Maid

Well done on posting a racist comment about 'ignorant ass white people.' It's amazing how fucking delusional you are about your own prejudices.

        • W357C0457

he wasn't saying they are all ignorant, he was just talking about the ones that are ignorant. that's why he put the 'half the country' remark in there.

          • Flucksy

There are racist and ignorant people who aren't white, but apparently the white ones are the problem? Or are you talking out your ass?

          • W357C0457

i didnt say anyone was racist, i was just clarifying his comment. i am white. my dad is racist as hell, i have no problem with people of other races and date interracially. so get the fuck off my dick faggot

          • iliekfalsecake

If "ignorant ass white people" Jonestown'd themselves, you'd have a higher ratio of "ignorant ass black people" to the rest of the country. Careful what you wish for.

          • W357C0457

we were talking about the 'ignorant' half. not the 'whites'. and i dont think anyone should 'jonestown themselves' besides rapists and child molesters/murderers. my dad is racist, but some of his best friends were black. it's still pretty complicated, not a black and white issue (no pun intended)

      • Lie Maid

The 'Murica' is funny cause Gallagher used to use it in his show. Don't know if anyone knows or cares but it just seemed funny to me

          • Flucksy

I think your confused. Or insane. Cracked is a comedy website and they use sources. It's like saying the Daily Show has an agenda. Who fucking cares?

          • Kenneth Edward Polley

You are aware that "REDNECK" is a racist word used to slur white folks, right jagoff?

          • god++

No, idiot, redneck is a word used for uneducated farmers. "Cracker" is an insult towards white people, redneck isn't. I've got nothing against white people, I only hate ignorant idiots, whether they are black, white, brown or blue.

          • Kenneth Edward Polley

So do colored farmers necks turn red or is that white farmers necks who turn red in the sun? Exactly Idiot. It is directed at white folks!

          • DoctorZin

            F*** blue people.

      • Kenneth Edward Polley

That shows how ignorant you are. Do you really believe no Inca family might have gone on vacation to one of the Mexican hot spots like Cancun or Cabo and liked it so much they didn't return to Peru? I would bet money it happened frequently! They must not have taught common sense there at that ghetto school you attended so we won't hold it against you Kunta!

        • god++

That's a retarded argument. Inca isn't a representative race in Mexico because the Inca culture never had any contact with the Aztecs or the Mayans.

It's very common for stupid, uneducated people (such as this wannabe comedian), to think that the Incas lived in Mexico.

If you knew about Mexican demographics, you'd know that there are more American, Canadian, French, Chinese and German immigrants in Mexico than Peruvians (not even Inca, just Peruvians in general).

This is nothing but white judgement/guilt. Gallagher has a right to say whatever fucked up shit enters his head, if you judge him for it, you are the problem, not him. The "anti-racists" in this country are far worse than the racists. They're on a witch-hunt for anyone who says a word or phrase that their personal perception doesn't deem appropriate. The opposite of what this country was founded on, and the opposite of acceptance.

    • Andrew Ryan

"Gallagher has a right to say whatever fucked up shit enters his head"

  • Kimberly Willay-Jenkins

America does have too many Mexicans.

    Note that is not racist.

    See, America needs more Americans.

This has nothing to do with brown people and it is insane how saying anything against illegal immigrants gets spun into being racist.

I think people are too quick on the racist trigger and need to realize that Mexican denotes they are from Mexico so it is not at all anything to do with skin color or anything of that nature.

Surely you could say you hate the French and not be racist. You would be xenophobic, but not racist.

I think we need more immigrants going about things the right way but currently we are getting flooded with illegals who do not assimilate at all which keeps them more Mexican than American which ought not be the case.

We should enjoy what everyone brings to the table and that includes cultures but we ultimately need to be American and I do not understand why wishing to be American suddenly became such a bad thing.

I think this interviewer was hoping for a Maron/Gallagher moment and was pushing very hard to get Gallagher to say something awful and it did not work.

Gallagher certainly did himself no favors but the interviewer should know that conducting an interview means asking questions and NOT interjecting your opinion.

It is an interview, not a debate.

This one was done with the hopes of garnering something shocking but in the end it just makes them both look like assholes. Gallagher for being the asshole he is and the interviewer for being a smug asshole you would not wish to have a conversation with.

    • MURICA

But Mexicans ARE Americans, they love in North America.

Hell, most of them are probably more "American" than the European-descended white folks you want more of.

Funny how the so-called 'anti-racists' always immediately assume that racism is the domain of white people only. And then they have the nerve to call them little-Americans or little-Englanders? Maybe some of these twats should be sent to Zimbabwe or South Africa to see what real racism is like, almost entirely black-on-white at that.

    • Benjamin Selassie

I don't know if that really qualifies. The people in those countries have a good reason to not like the white people who oppressed them for years and killed them at will. So that is a strange example to bring up. My suggestion to them would be to leave the country.

      • TheBlanton

Nothing like that ever happened to America, just ask any African Amer…. I mean ask any Native Amer…. I mean ask any Mexica…. I mean ask any white person. White people face discrimination, like, all the time and we are sick of it!

        • Benjamin Selassie

Well examine what you just said. You are sick of being criticized for coming into another country and forcibly subjecting people and being called on it. As a group fair enough, but still the people being subjugated were lumped into groups as well. I would think that considering whites as a group have received little backlash in comparison then maybe this level of fanaticism in the other direction from events that have happened in peoples lifespans is a bit unwarranted.

    • TheBlanton

Ummm Apartheid JUST ended dud. Defend your racist views however you want. You are a racist, deal with it.

  • Tored of Racist Hypocrites

Racist only exists if it's a white man talking derogatorily towards a coloured man. If it's the other way around, which happens constantly, it's either 'cultural diversity' which is ignored under the guise of white people needing to be more tolerant (yet receiving no tolerance of their own views which are often moderate in comparison) or it is somehow the fault of white people because some other white people hundreds of years ago did some bad stuff. It's getting old, and it doesn't work anymore except on the most gullible and self-loathing of neo-liberal half-wits who have no concept of economic infrastructure or social balance. Sadly, these are the sort of morons who are setting the agenda on these boards by calling people Nazis and telling them to commit suicide for not being far enough to the left. That isn't liberalism, that's bigotry and fascism under another label.

Stop this hundreds of years ago bs. White people are still doing fucked up shit and have been blatantly shitty up until the early 90's. Now, whites are more covert about their fucked upness. Who changed the rules exactly? The people they are complaining about didn't give themselves entry in to the structure of the country. I think white people did. Now that others are able to play the silly game the whites have been playing for years, it's a problem now. But not for all white people just for some who would like to do whatever they like whenever they like with no consequences.

I don't care what you think or say but the actions of a person should adhere to the laws of the country. Otherwise no one is buying the plight of the white man bit. That is getting old fast.

      • TheBlanton

Wonder why black people would be distrustful of whites in America… maybe something happened that caused them some sort of resentment?

        • Kenneth Edward Polley

So since the coloreds are only 13% of the population and they commit half the murders in the U.S., it is fair to say that whites should be allowed to be distrustful towards the coloreds as well then, right? Or is it just another one of the one way streets and coloreds are the only ones allowed to be distrustful?

        • Kenneth Edward Polley

Or is it just another one of the one way streets and coloreds are the only ones allowed to be distrustful?

          • Kyle McCormick

That only makes sense if you assume that murderin' is inherent to the black experience. Has the entire country forgotten that correlation does not equal causation? That just because most murders are committed by African Americans, it's not BECAUSE they're African American; that most black people do not go around stabbing and murdering, and that to assume that any given black person you see is a threat is prejudiced, unfair, and totally uncool? Look, violent crime is and has always been a product of poverty and disenfranchisement (except when it's a product of mental imbalance, but those are, by definition, freak occurrences, not societal trends); poor Northern whites around the turn of the century in cities like Chicago and New York had staggeringly high murder rates, and it wasn't because they were white. Giving white people a benefit of the doubt that you won't give black people is absolutely racist (and it fits with your definitions from upthread: It presumes the innocence and trustworthiness of white people over black people, which would then presume their superiority).

          • Kenneth Edward Polley

            White people are superior!

          • Bongo Muffin

In what way are they superior? Lincoln isn't a god to most black people, I'm not sure where that info comes from.

Freedom of speech in the US is about the govt not being able to punish you for speech…
its not about private citicizens not being able to call you out when you are being a dick.

    • Tsadi Waw Mem Taw

Why don't you think about it for a minute? If the constitution makes a point of specifying that speech is not to be penalized, then does it not violate the meaning and spirit of the constitution for the people of the nation called by Lincoln of by and for the people to penalize free speech or other expression in any way?

      • Valerie

No. The opposite is true, in fact.

Speech is protected because the founders recognized that, for the good of the country, patriotic citizens must be allowed to identify BS when they smell it.

How do we know? Because our founding document is mainly devoted to calling BS on the British government.
Look, we all remember the Declaration for the lovely descriptions of noble ideals (e.g. that all men are created equal), but most of the document is actually spent calling out the King for actions and ideas that they found objectionable (e.g. taxation without representation).
The first amendment allows us to collectively decide what ideas are best and what ideas are not – and a big part of that involves people condemning and mocking ideas that they find offensive or stupid.

Gallagher has a right to say his piece. So does Sarafinowitz. Both can call BS on the other, and neither has to fear arrest. It's up to the marketplace of ideas to sort out who's right.

(Important side note: you can say what you like, but nobody is obliged to give you a platform to do so – in other words, when Bill O'Reilly or some other pundit shuts off your mic, he's might be a dick, but he's not violating your rights or the spirit of the first amendment.)

Sorry, to be hounded out of your livelihood by a quote-wielding mob is definitely against the spirit of freedom of speech.

Changing the channel; turning off your radio; voting with your pocketbook: fine.

But to target and pursue someone to unemployment for expressing an opinion is bulls***, and fair people know this.

        • Tsadi Waw Mem Taw

No, what I said in the first place is the truth of the matter. Freedom of expression is protected by the Constitution and exists even if there is no law. To attempt to punish free expression is a violation of a person's natural freedom.

Those like you who are in the habit of making responses to comments that are not really responses to the original comment because you do not understand the comment, probably not having actually read it aside from the first few words, should be especially thankful for this, but then again, it wasn't intended to apply to those without Y chromosomes in the first place.

And going a little deeper, it was not "British BS" that facilitated the founding of the United States. It was the fact that the secret society Uncle Toms among the founders were working to bring about the will of Mas'r Papa and the Vatican power structure overall.

I don't know why everyone is/was so upset about this. Like Gallagher said, he's coming from this from a scientific standpoint, he did an experiment! I'd post all of the complex formulas and data and everything he used, but I'm sure none of you backwards, non-scientific types could even understand it. It's just too…scientific.

Where was the racism? He noticed that there are a lot of Mexicans. And you know what? There are. I fail to see how any of this is racist.

    • TheBlanton

      Probably because you are racist.

  • Kenneth Edward Polley

Racism is the belief that one race is superior to another. How was that inferred? It wasn't, so no racism here. As usual!

    • seber12463848704

Wanting only European Spanish (read: white people in Mexico) to come to America and not the actual Mexicans due to nothing else but their race is pretty racist.

Not to mention racism isn't just that one definition.

      • Kenneth Edward Polley

Racism is the belief that one race is superior to another. How did he infer that? He didn't. Even if he said I wish the United States had nothing but white people, that doesn't infer one race is superior to another! The problem here is that people like you want to label anything and everything you don't like, that deals with race, as racism.

        • seber12463848704

You can't really be this stupid, surely. Why would you want America to be nothing but white people unless you believed white people were superior? You need to read more books.

          • Kenneth Edward Polley

So if I would prefer to be around people I identify with, I automatically feel superior to others? Are you really that ignorant?

          • seber12463848704

No. When you want to restrict immigration by race you are a supremacist. Choosing your friends based on their race just makes you kinda ignorant.

  • Mike

You people are such effing a-holes and I'll let you figure which people I mean. The U.S. is in serious, if not terminal, condition.

  • Kenneth Edward Polley

Why is some Jackoff from London worried about what takes place in America? It's none of his fucking business. Worry about that Dyke of a Queen and the rest of the royal fairies! Don't worry about what we do, stick to your own 2tier Country!

  • DoctorZin

He should have just stuck with we've got enough of ALL the different types of Mexicans equally. We do, actually. More educated Asians and Europeans; less Mexicans, please.

  • Josh Brooks

What? Doesn't sound racist to me. Sounds like a joke.

    • Josh Brooks

I just listened to the podcast more fully and he said he wasn't joking….I was reaallllyyyy wrong….. He is going senile or something.

  • Tsadi Waw Mem Taw

Those guys are fucking morons. For one thing, how is it racist if the focus of the discrimination is height, and who would seriously discriminate on the basis of height?

And by the way, Mexicans should not be allowed into the United States, because they are running from the nation that they did not bother to salvage, and migrating to another where they will do the same.

I have had someone respond by stating the reality that it is U.S. government protection of drug cartels which prevents their removal, but such things are not made known to the public at large, and if that is the case, then why the fuck would you migrate to the nation that you claim is responsible for the destruction of yours?

  • IQdaRadical Thinker

    Jesus Fucking Christ.

Some of you need to buy a clue and a fucking dictionary, because it's clear you have no idea what the actual fuck you're talking about.

But then again, I expect as much from fucking idiot racists defending racism.

The fact that you fuckwits can breathe, let alone talk is a fucking miracle.

The fact that most of you were the sperm that made it should depress your parents to no end.

bradford evans's article's title uses the word "again" inappropriately –
the author is guilty of "piling on."
gallagher didn't say anything "racist" on the wtf podcast.

accusers: grow up & stop with the righteous indignation -
"I'm so enlightened that i'm offended by your lack of sensitivity."
oh crap, now i just did it. that must make me a witch!
