The Vine 5 Film Festival: Jackasses, Yokels, *and* Idiots

Vine is a toy from Twitter that challenges users to make the most profound work ever committed to video in exactly six seconds. Or at the very least, challenges comedians to bring a little more laughter into this world. Every Tuesday we showcase five of the funniest short shorts of the past week.

Your RSS feed might be difficult and not show the videos, but trust us – they are there.

The Vine app continues to expand its reach, with none other than POTUS himself singing up. And during Jimmy Fallon’s monologue on Friday night, a bit aired where “Barack Obama” failed to grasp the six second maximum rule that even leaders of the free world need to obey in his first few attempts at vining. In front of a possibly completely confused audience, the sketch concluded with Obama vomiting a lemon, which Fallon confirmed moments later was a shout-out to one of Will Sasso’s many running gags on Vine. Very exciting stuff.

Also Paris Hilton joined. No good deed and such.

By Key and Peele

Keegan-Michael Key and Jordan Peele also have started to get involved with Vine, using it to keep us from dying over a lack of laughter while waiting for season three of their show to return in September. In addition to the poetic repartee of those two love birds, the boys also made a video guest starring the most popular actor to come out of the classic WB series Roswell.

“Kevin the CVS Manager and Former ‘Jackass’ Member Discusses Ace Bandages”
By Jason Nash

Master impressionist Jason Nash is the host of his podcast Guys with Feelings, and is a recurring guest on Sklarbro Country, where he impersonates several celebrities, most notably and hilariously Bruce Jenner. On Vine, Nash likes to portray everyday people with weird but identifiable quirks, like a father obsessed with soda, or a waiter who is unjustifiably excited to tell his customers about tapas. Nash as a former Jackasser that is wistful of his halcyon days of getting kicked in the crotch while remaining dedicated to his far more mundane and straight edge job is so random and played so sincerely that it’s really funny.

“Uncle Cleetus and Jericho Ridge Talkin Bout Coachella”
By Simon Rex
Featuring Nick Swardson

Simon Rex, Nick Swardson, and Sunny Mabrey spent a few hours last week shooting a couple of videos, including one where Mabrey just wanted to talk to a few sympathetic hick ears. The imperfect editing is more than forgiven for Swardson’s spelling out of where exactly Uncle Cleetus went.

By Keply Pentland

There is something about Ms. Pentland’s dry deliveries that make her insults seem so calculated and objective, and therefore a thousand times more piercing and hurtful compared to anybody else’s. I would not want to be this bridge, or in any way related to it.

“Maria Bamford’s New Talk Show”
By Morgan Murphy
Featuring Maria Bamford

Despite blatant advertising, Maria Bamford’s new talk show was cancelled after eighteen seconds, which is a new record, so there is that.
