USA Orders Jessica St. Clair and Lennon Parham's Pilot to Series, Coming Early 2014

Jessica St. Clair and Lennon Parham are coming back to TV. The USA network announced this morning that they've ordered a new show called Playing House from the duo, who created/starred in the critically-acclaimed but short-lived sitcom Best Friends Forever for NBC last season. USA commissioned the Parham/St. Clair show as a pilot presentation back in February. Playing House is a single-camera half-hour comedy once again created by Parham and St. Clair that stars St. Clair as a career-driven woman who returns from her job overseas to help her best friend (Parham) raise her new baby. Zach Woods (The Office), Brad Morris (Cougar Town), and Keegan-Michael Key (Key & Peele) had supporting roles in the pilot. It's unknown whether Key, who plays St. Clair's police officer ex whose proposal she turned down when they were 23, will be able to join the show full time with his commitment to his Comedy Central's Key & Peele, but here's hoping he's able to do both.

Playing House is expected to debut in early 2014 alongside Sirens, a comedy about a group of EMTs from Denis Leary, which USA also ordered to series today. Picking up both shows is part of the cable network's efforts to beef up its comedy lineup in anticipation of gaining the lucrative rerun rights to Modern Family this fall. USA also may end up ordering new episodes of Happy Endings, which ABC recently canceled after three seasons. By 2014, it looks like USA is gonna be one of a zillion cable networks that's doing exciting comedy stuff.
