Bo Burnham Says 'Zach Stone' Is Pretty Much Canceled

Comedian Bo Burnham revealed via Twitter yesterday that his MTV show is more or less done for. The show, Zach Stone Is Gonna Be Famous, is a sitcom that stars Burnham as the title character, a high school grad who foregoes college to turn his life into a reality show. "The final three episodes of Zach Stone will be airing THIS WEEK," Burnham tweeted. He added:

"For those asking, MTV airing the final 3 [episodes] this week, 2 on Saturday, is most certainly a sign that they won't order a second season. I am very grateful for and proud of the 12 episodes we're were allowed to make. And thank you so much to everyone who has watched it. I have had an obscenely lucky life. I am in awe of being able to have made a show and share it with you. Enjoy the end Zach! (for now)"

Zach Stone premiered in early May but failed to draw huge ratings despite critical acclaim. It's sad to see the show go, as it deserved more of a chance and this is just another example of MTV's not-great relationship with comedy. This is the fourth MTV comedy in two years to be canceled after just one season (following The Inbetweeners, I Just Want My Pants Back, and Death Valley), and it's a shame we won't get to see where Bo Burnham and company take this with a second year.

UPDATE, PM: MTV announced this afternoon they've officially canceled the show.

Death Valley was the strongest of those shows by a mile, and it's a shame it never came back. This, while sporadically funny, I don't think was the best outlet for Burnham.

So frustrating…season 1 has such a great arc and set up such rich possibilities for season 2. Sad we won't get to see them.
