Paul Feig Is Writing and Directing the Spy Comedy ‘Susan Cooper’
Paul Feig’s next movie may end up being another female-driven action-comedy. Feig, who created Freaks and Geeks and directed Bridesmaids, also directed The Heat, the Sandra Bullock-Melissa McCarthy buddy cop comedy that’s poised to be a big summer hit upon its June 28th release. The Wrap reports that Feig is developing a new film called Susan Cooper, a spy comedy that he’s writing, producing, and directing. Rather than a goofy spoof in the vein of Austin Powers or Get Smart, the project is a realistic comedy set in the world of spies that was inspired by the 2006 James Bond reboot Casino Royale. Feig is currently searching for an actress to play the title role in Susan Cooper, which he intends to make into a franchise. Like The Heat, the movie has two lead roles. In addition to Susan Cooper, Feig is also developing a mother-daughter action-comedy with The Heat writer Katie Dippold and a sequel to The Heat, so don’t worry; there are plenty of Paul Feig female-driven action-comedies coming down the pipeline.
