‘American Dad!’ Is Jumping to TBS in 2014
Fox’s long-running sitcom American Dad! is jumping from the broadcast network to a cable one next year. Deadline reports that the series will air its tenth and final season on Fox beginning this fall and then the show will move to TBS next year. TBS has ordered an 11th season of American Dad! consisting of 15 episodes. Under the deal, TBS’s sister network Adult Swim will air encores of the new American Dad! episodes after they initially air on TBS.
This is pretty surprising news given that this is the first we’ve heard of American Dad! being finished at Fox. The series has been at the network for nearly a decade, originally premiering in 2005. The show has seen its ratings decline gradually over the last several seasons. For the 2012-13 season, it was the 43rd most-watched program on TV. For comparison’s sake, Fox’s other animated shows came it at 16th (Family Guy), 31st (The Simpsons), 60th (Bob’s Burgers), and 94th (The Cleveland Show). Cleveland Show was the only one of the four to not be renewed this season. Hopefully, Fox will continue to renew Bob’s Burgers despite its similar ratings or it’ll be able to find a home elsewhere like American Dad! has done.
