Melissa McCarthy to Star in Paul Feig’s Spy Comedy ‘Susan Cooper’
Melissa McCarthy and director Paul Feig are making another movie together. The Wrap reports that McCarthy, who previously worked with Feig on summer blockbusters Bridesmaids and The Heat, is in talks to star in his new spy comedy Susan Cooper. Feig will direct and produce the film, which is based on a script he wrote unlike his previous two movies. Rather than being a wacky spoof like Austin Powers or Get Smart, Susan Cooper is a realistic comedy set in the world of spies that was inspired by Casino Royale, the 2006 James Bond reboot. The movie has one other lead character in addition to McCarthy’s and is said to lend itself to a potential franchise. The Heat, so far, has grossed a whopping $133 million at the domestic box office and a sequel has been greenlit, but co-star Sandra Bullock said this week she doesn’t want to make a sequel.
