The Mayor of Rio de Janeiro Will Fund Woody Allen’s Next Movie If He Makes It There

Rio de Janeiro’s mayor, Eduardo Paes, is deadset on bringing Woody Allen to the Brazilian city to make his next movie. Allen has made movies in European cities like Paris, France, and Barcelona, Spain, in recent years with the encouragement of the local governments, but Eduardo Paes is taking it to the next level, offering to “pay 100 percent of the production.” He adds, “I’ve already tried everything. I spoke to his sister, I sent a letter to Calatrava, who is his neighbor in New York, and I’ll pay whatever it takes to bring him to film here.” In unrelated news, Brazil has recently seen huge demonstrations from its people who are upset about wasteful government spending.
