CBS Is Making That HIMYM Spinoff, 'How I Met Your Dad'

A few weeks after the idea was first revealed, CBS has decided to spinoff their hit sitcom How I Met Your Mother. A pilot has been ordered for How I Met Your Dad, to be written and executive produced by HIMYM creators Carter Bays and Craig Thomas and Up All Night creator Emily Spivey. As the title suggests, the show will follow a single woman telling the story of meeting her children's future father.

Unlike most spinoffs, which feature an established character in a new setting, this show will feature none of HIMYM's characters or settings. The pilot for HIMYD will be a stand-alone episode, rather than a back-door pilot during departing HIMYM's final season. On Twitter, co-creator Bays said the show "probably won't be set in Maclarens — new bar for a new show. And likewise the characters won't be introduced on #HIMYM." Carter agreed, saying, "This will be its own, totally new show."
