David Koechner to Star In and Create an NBC Sketch Comedy Pilot
With Anchorman 2 set for a big opening weekend, NBC has ordered a show from one of its stars. Deadline reports that David Koechner has signed a deal to create and star in a one-hour sketch/variety pilot for the network. Koechner will produce the pilot alongside Lou Wallach, an ex-Comedy Central exec who produced Full On Koechner, his recent web series. Koechner said in a statement, “As a husband and father of five, my vision is for us to create a show that engages everyone. I want it to make a mom, dad and grandmother laugh, while the 13- to 19-year-old stands behind the couch peeking over his iPhone, equally amused by the content.” He got his start doing sketch on NBC as a cast member on Saturday Night Live from 1995 to 1996.
With Saturday Night Live being one of NBC’s few hits, the network has been going on a sketch comedy-ordering binge, having recently bought a pilot for a Maya Rudolph-fronted variety show, and a new sketch show also produced by Wallach, but the Koechner show could very well be that same project.
