HBO Orders Dwayne Johnson and Rob Corddry's 'Ballers' to Series

Two days after giving the Jack Black/Tim Robbins comedy The Brink a series order, Variety reports that HBO has followed that up with another order for the football dramedy Ballers starring Dwayne Johnson and Rob Corddry and executive produced by Johnson, Mark Wahlberg, and Steve Levinson, who also penned the script. Johnson plays a former all-pro running back, while Corddry plays his former boss-turned-socially inept financial advisor. Other characters on the show include "a highly spiritual pro athlete, financial adviser, sports agent, ESPN sideline reporter, and ex-wife of a pro football player." Ballers makes Johnson's first big TV acting gig, but thankfully for Corddry the show won't conflict with his work on Children's Hospital.
