Mitch Hurwitz to Develop a New Series for Netflix Under Multi-Year Deal
According to Deadline, Netflix has found a way to keep Arrested Development creator Mitch Hurwitz around by signing him under a rare multi-year deal to create and produce series for the streaming network. The deal would involve Hurwitz as both a creator of new series as well as a developer for other creators’ projects “as a non-writing executive producer,” acting as Netflix’s consulting creative for their upcoming comedies. While no firm updates on Arrested Development have been made yet, Hurwitz and Netflix have reportedly been in talks to produce another season or original movie in the near future.
“It is incredibly inspiring to get to produce for Netflix, a company that not only doesn’t resist change but is leaps and bounds ahead of everyone in forging it,” Hurwitz said. “The fact that I’m also getting one month of their streaming right to my TV or Xbox free … well, it really takes the sting out of buying that Xbox.”
