Anti-Pilot Season Fox Boss Kevin Reilly Calls it Quits

Top Fox network executive Kevin Reilly is leaving his post. Reilly, who has served as Fox's Entertainment Chairman since 2007, announced his resignation today following a rough TV season ratings-wise.

In January, Reilly announced he wanted to abandon broadcast TV's traditional pilot season model, in which networks spend a bunch of money to film pilot episodes of dozens of prospective shows every spring, only to pick up a handful of them in the fall. Reilly had just started to implement this plan, giving comedies Mulaney and Will Forte's Last Man on Earth straight-to-series orders. Time will tell whether his successor continues with his plan to abandon pilot season in favor of a year-round development season or if he or she just goes straight back to the old way of doing things.
