Peyton Reed Will Direct 'Ant-Man' with Script Help from Adam McKay

peyton_reedMarvel has finally named its new Ant-Man director to fill the void left by original helmer Edgar Wright. Deadline reports that Peyton Reed has officially signed on to direct the Paul Rudd-starring superhero movie due out in July 2015. Adam McKay, who considered the job but ultimately turned down the offer, will reportedly help Reed with the script — the most current rewrite of which is the reason why Wright decided to part ways with the project.

Reed's biggest film directing projects include Bring It On, The Break-Up, and the Jim Carrey-starring Yes Man, and he's also directed a handful of small-screen comedies like New Girl, the Upright Citizens Brigade TV series, Mr. Show, The Weird Al Show, and the Gregory Brothers' 2012 Comedy Central pilot produced by Tom Scharpling. Here's the official Ant-Man synopsis Marvel recently posted on their site:

When Marvel's "Ant-Man" hits theaters July 17, 2015, director Peyton Reed will help shepherd the hero into the Marvel Cinematic Universe with a cast led by Paul Rudd and Michael Douglas, with writer Adam McKay contributing to the film's script.

Armed with the astonishing ability to shrink in scale but increase in strength, con-man Scott Lang (Rudd) must embrace his inner-hero and help his mentor, Dr. Hank Pym (Douglas), protect the secret behind his spectacular Ant-Man suit from a new generation of towering threats. Against seemingly insurmountable obstacles, Pym and Lang must plan and pull off a heist that will save the world.
