Watch Chris Farley and Tim Meadows Play Wrigley Field Security Guards in 1989
Welcome to The Second City Archives, in which we post an exclusive clip each week of some of comedy’s biggest superstars performing early in their careers on the legendary Chicago stage. Second City has generously given us a glimpse into their extensive archive of live performances, and over the coming weeks we’ll be sharing some rare and retro comedy never before seen on the web.
This week’s clip is a scene from Second City’s 1989 revue It Was Thirty Years Ago Today featuring ensemble performers Chris Farley, Joe Liss, Tim Meadows, Joel Murray, Judith Scott, David Pasquesi, and Holly Wortell. Titled “Security,” the sketch stars Farley and Meadows as two Wrigley Field security guards who are a little sensitive about all the jobs they could’ve had, which Pasquesi is quick to remind them about. This clip was filmed after the live show for a potential comedy pilot, so there’s a noticeable lack of laughter. The pilot might not have worked out, but within the next two years both Farley and Meadows would become SNL cast members.
