Meet Second City’s Top 3 Presidential Candidates from 1996
Welcome to The Second City Archives, in which we post an exclusive clip each week of some of comedy’s biggest superstars performing early in their careers on the legendary Chicago stage. Second City has generously given us a glimpse into their extensive archive of live performances, and over the coming weeks we’ll be sharing some rare and retro comedy never before seen on the web.
Two weeks ago, Second City unearthed a clip for us featuring Tina Fey, Rachel Dratch, and Jenna Jolovitz as three potential First Ladies, and this week they gave us another clip from the same show where we finally get to meet their husbands and presidential candidates. From the 1996 revue Citizen Gates, the above scene stars Kevin Dorff, Scott Adsit, and Scott Allman as three presidential hopefuls who each make a unique argument about why they deserve voters’ support: “Now it’s true that I haven’t had many of the privileges and opportunities of my opponents, and it may also be true that I’m simply unqualified to lead. And yes, words — big words — are hard for me. But my friends, what I lack in talent I more than make up for in ego!” Check out another scene from the same show here.
