Elizabeth Banks’s Digital Comedy Platform for Women ‘WhoHaha’ Launches Today
Say hello to the internet’s newest comedy platform with big-name backing: WhoHaha. Cofounded by Elizabeth Banks — who made the big reveal for the site on Twitter today — WhoHaha is described as “a digital platform whose goal is to shine a spotlight on funny women.” Here’s more from the site:
Here at WhoHaha our motto is: if men can do it, they probably learned it from a woman. WhoHaha will elevate and spotlight funny women from around the globe who are creating unique and entertaining content, from Amy Schumer and Mindy Kaling to your 15 your old neighbor who just started her own Youtube channel. WhoHaha is a space for female creators to distribute their content to a wider audience and a place for users to spend hours laughing until they pee. Elizabeth is scouring the internet for the funniest women the web has to offer and delivering them to you on all platforms.
Banks spoke more about the project with Ad Age and said that not only will WhoHaha feature new and original content, but she hopes it will become a place where she can nurture rising talent:
We need in Hollywood and entertainment those fresh voices, and they need a leg up. I really try and have personal relationships with a lot of these women. I bring people in to meet at my [production] company, and we’ll be looking to do more content creation, more mentoring. Most of the people I talk to do want to be in more traditional media, and their online presence is often just a way to get here.
