The 5th Annual LA Indie Improv Fest is This Weekend
This Saturday, August 6, marks the fifth anniversary of the LA Indie Improv Festival, a gathering of teams from across Los Angeles set on five stages (and one roaming party bus). In 13 marathon hours, the fest will host over 175 groups representing the city’s dozens of improv theaters and training centers, bringing LA’s widespread scene together for one day of non-stop performing and partying.
The fest was founded by a group of independent show producers who wanted to bring an exponentially growing scene together, in the most accessible possible way; there’s no admission fee, and the entire event is donation-based.
Some standout shows include a reunion of beloved former Harold team John Velvet, a performance from sketch/improv superstars Big Grande, Seth Morris & Mary Holland, White Women (an all-black male team), avant-garde stage show Wet The Hippo, and Daily Double with Betsy Sodaro and Toni Charlene.
Check the LAIFF schedule for more info on teams and performers; expect to see theaters like the Upright Citizens Brigade Theatre, iO, Second City, The Clubhouse, Impro Studio, The Groundlings, the Nerdist School, and many more represented.
