Comedy Central Announces Standup Specials from Lewis Black, Kurt Braunohler, Roy Wood Jr., and More
Comedy Central just announced a new batch of standup specials, including Lewis Black’s Black to the Future airing next month and hourlong specials from Kurt Braunohler, Roy Wood Jr., Joe DeRosa, and Mark Normand set to air sometime next year. Here’s more info on each special:
Just in time for the elections, Lewis Black returns to one of Broadway’s biggest stages to take on Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton in Lewis Black: Black to the Future which is currently running as a limited engagement at the Marquis Theatre in New York City. It’s being filmed on Monday, September 26 and will premiere on Friday, October 7 at 10:00 p.m. ET/PT.
Kurt Braunohler is a comedian, skywriter and jet-skier who committed his career (perhaps foolishly) to “inserting absurdity into stranger’s lives to make the world a better place.” He will be filming his latest one-hour stand-up special, Kurt Braunohler: Trust Me at Revolution Hall in Portland, OR on Saturday, September 24 and will premiere in 2017.
Writer, actor, and standup comedian Joe DeRosa has become a favorite on the comedy circuit. His brand of comedy mixing brutal honesty and frustration at the workings of the world has won over comedy fans, radio listeners, and TV audiences nationwide. DeRosa will be filming his third Comedy Central one-hour stand-up special, Joe DeRosa: You Let Me Down at the Masonic Lodge in Los Angeles on Thursday, October 13 and will premiere in 2017.
Amy Schumer Presents Mark Normand: Don’t Be Yourself (working title) is Normand’s first one-hour stand-up special which will shoot in the fall and air in 2017. The Village Voice hailed Mark, “the best joke writer in a city full of them,” which has led to numerous appearances including Comedy Central’s @midnight with Chris Hardwick, This Is Not Happening and The Half Hour, Showtime’s SXSW Comedy, NBC’s Last Comic Standing, CBS’s Late Show with Stephen Colbert, TBS’s Conan, and Louis CK’s Horace and Pete. He has also made several appearances on Comedy Central’s Emmy® Award-winning series Inside Amy Schumer, and headlines clubs across the country.
Roy Wood Jr. is part of “The Best F#@ing News Team” as a correspondent on The Daily Show with Trevor Noah. Wood Jr. has been described by The Hollywood Reporter as “A standout,” and Entertainment Weekly called his brand of thought provoking comedy as “charismatic crankiness.” In 2016, Variety named him one of “10 Comics to Watch.” He will be filming his first one-hour stand-up special Roy Wood Jr.: Father Figure at Center Stage in Atlanta on Friday, October 14 and will premiere in 2017.
Black’s special airs next month in addition to previously announced specials from Kevin Hart (October 2nd), Kyle Kinane (October 15th), and SNL’s Pete Davidson (October 29th).
