Fred Willard Makes the Perfect ‘Teen Bandstand’ Host in This Second City Clip

Welcome to The Second City Archives, in which we post an exclusive clip each week of some of comedy’s biggest superstars performing early in their careers on the legendary Chicago stage. Second City has generously given us a glimpse into their extensive archive of live performances, and over the coming weeks we’ll be sharing some rare and retro comedy never before seen on the web.

Christopher Guest’s new movie Mascots premieres on Netflix next month, so this week Second City sent us a vintage clip featuring Guest film favorite Fred Willard. In the above scene, Willard plays the host of Teen Bandstand, where he welcomes a boy band (played by Robert Klein, David Steinberg, and Alex Canaan) to the show to promote their brand new record all about death: “Kids, if you don’t know about dying you don’t know about living!” Watch some other great clips of Willard performing at Second City here and here.
