Mary Sohn and Tim Baltz Meet for a First Date at The Second City in 2011

Welcome to The Second City Archives, in which we post an exclusive clip each week of some of comedy’s biggest superstars performing early in their careers on the legendary Chicago stage. Second City has generously given us a glimpse into their extensive archive of live performances, and over the coming weeks we’ll be sharing some rare and retro comedy never before seen on the web.

This week, Second City sent us a sweet scene from the 2011 revue Sky’s the Limit (Weather Permitting), where Mary Sohn and Tim Baltz play two strangers meeting on a first date. Unfortunately, Baltz has a pretty severe case of social anxiety disorder, so he’s forced to bring pre-written index cards along to the date so he can keep up with all the small talk with responses like “I like your feminine outfit,” “I value this information,” and “You don’t say. Elaborate!” Stick around until the very end — the scene is pretty silly in the beginning, but it might make your eyes a little misty by the time the date is over. Check out another clip from the same 2011 revue here.
