Netflix Orders Two Chris Rock Standup Specials
Chris Rock is returning to standup after an eight-year break. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the streaming network has signed a deal with Rock that includes two standup specials. The first special will tape during Rock’s upcoming 2017 world tour, but a premiere date has not yet been set. “Chris Rock is a beloved actor and director, and his remarkable stand-up makes him comic royalty. There is no one like him, and Netflix offers the global platform and creative freedom that will serve as a perfect home for someone with his incredible talent,” Netflix exec Ted Sarandos said on the news. Netflix reportedly paid Rock a whopping $40 million for both specials. His last standup special, Kill the Messenger, aired on HBO in 2008.
