Comedy Icon Mary Tyler Moore Dies at 80

The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed that Emmy and Tony-winning writer, actress, producer, comedian, and TV comedy pioneer Mary Tyler Moore died today in Connecticut. Moore is best known for starring in television classics The Dick Van Dyke Show and her eponymous series The Mary Tyler Moore Show in the ’60s and ’70s as well as her Oscar-nominated performance in 1980’s Ordinary People, and she also served as a producer on shows like Rhoda and The Bob Newhart Show. Moore — who had brain surgery in 2012 and was fighting diabetes in recent years — was 80 years old.
