The Second City Tackles Immigration Through The Power of Song in 2006

Welcome to The Second City Archives, in which we post an exclusive clip each week of some of comedy’s biggest superstars performing early in their careers on the legendary Chicago stage. Second City has generously given us a glimpse into their extensive archive of live performances, and over the coming weeks we’ll be sharing some rare and retro comedy never before seen on the web.

Between Donald Trump’s travel ban on mostly Muslim countries, his plan to build a Mexican border wall, and Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s offer to welcome refugees turned down by the US to Canada, immigration has been a huge topic in the news lately. To that end, Second City sent us a great clip this week from the 2006 revue War! Now in Its 4th Smash Year, which featured performers Brian Gallivan, Ithamar Enriquez, Molly Erdman, Maribeth Monroe, Claudia Wallace, and Joe Canale. In the scene, the performers tackle a bunch of immigration issues in musical form, and, well, just keep in mind that this clip might change the song “Blackbird” for you forever.
