Take a Break from It All in ‘Late Night’ Writer Amber Ruffin’s Safe Space

Late Night writer Amber Ruffin is usually quick to offer hilarious takedowns of all the terrible news happening this year, but there comes a time when even the strongest defenders of justice and sanity need a break for self-care, and that time came for Ruffin during last night’s show. Instead of directly responding to the news about the white supremacist rally in Charlottesville and Trump’s stunning defense of Neo-Nazis yesterday, Ruffin decided instead to take some time for herself by heading to her “safe space” and inviting Seth Meyers in to check it out too. It’s a perfect, magical world filled with margaritas, chocolate cake, photos of Ruffin’s heroes, and the inability to say or do anything that will affect the “safe” part of the space, including saying the T-word. “This is great. I wish I had a safe space,” Meyers says. “Seth, you’re white,” Ruffin replies. “You have a safe space. It’s called America.”
