Seth Meyers Checks in on HUD Secretary/Dismantler Ben Carson on ‘Late Night’

Here’s a clip from last night’s Late Night, where Seth Meyers devotes his “The Check In” segment to former presidential candidate and current head of the Department of Housing and Urban Development Ben Carson in the wake of Hurricanes Harvey and Irma hitting the States, which has already put many people in a position where they’ll need to rely on Carson and HUD for housing now that their homes have been destroyed. Despite Carson’s impressive experience as a doctor, he doesn’t seem to know or care much about affordable housing or how to run HUD, and Meyers notes that many of his critics have even said he’s “dismantling” the agency by actively slowing things down and keeping a handful of top jobs unfilled. To make matters worse, Trump cut the HUD budget by $6 billion this year. “While Trump is busy praising agencies that are helping with disaster relief, they’re also the same agencies whose funding he wants to slash,” Meyers says. “Now is not the time to cut back on disaster relief programs – especially not when hurricanes are lining up like they have numbers at a deli.”
