Kathy Griffin to Play Kellyanne Conway on Anthony Atamanuik’s ‘President Show’ Special Next Week
It’s been almost a year since Kathy Griffin made headlines for her now-infamous decapitated Trump photo, and now she’s teaming up with the world’s only truly good Trump impersonator Anthony Atamanuik for her first TV role since the big controversy. The New York Times reports that Griffin will appear in Atamanuik’s upcoming President Show special on Comedy Central, which airs next Tuesday, April 3rd at 11:00pm. Griffin will appear on the special in character as Kellyanne Conway. Comedy Central has since confirmed the news.
“I am kicking the hornet’s nest, as much as I can,” Griffin told NYT on the news. “I think now enough time has passed where people are starting see the ridiculousness of what happened to me, and they’re seeing other people that Trump has done it to.” Atamanuik also expressed his support for Griffin and the backlash she received for posting the photo, telling NYT, “I don’t see that as a capital offense by any means. I know we spend a lot of time talking about the Second Amendment, but there’s the one before it that’s really important. The notion that a person’s career would be defined by one action they take is, to me, crazy.”
Next week’s special is the first of a two-special order Comedy Central recently gave The President Show, but the network has not revealed any plans to renew Atamanuik’s show for a full, second season. “My personal hope is that the specials do well and maybe that will propel us back into some more regular appearances,” Atamanuik told NYT, adding that he’s also open to continuing the show in the form of quarterly specials. Less President Show means less scary accurate Trump presidency prophecies, so hopefully Comedy Central realizes the more Atamanuik we get, the better.
