This Just in: Chevy Chase Is Not Easy to Work with

Director and superest Super Trooper  Jay Chandrasekhar was on Sklarbro Country today and he told a story about Chevy Chase being classic Chevy Chase during the filming of Mixology Certification:

The bits are in three parts: beginning, and move along, and payoff. … So I said, "All right, Chevy, it's time to shoot the second part of the bit," and he goes "eh, you don't need it." And I'm like, "Yeah, yeah we need it, we need it." He goes, "Nah, don't worry about it, you don't need it." And I'm like, "Yeah, well, we shot the intro, we shot the payoff, we kind of need the move-along section." He goes, [...]

On the Dan Harmon Situation

OK, here’s what we know: Dan Harmon, the creator of Community, won’t be returning to his baby next season because…well, that’s the question, isn’t it? On his Tumblr (I love 2012), Harmon wrote, "A few hours ago, I landed in Los Angeles, turned on my phone, and confirmed what you already know. Sony Pictures Television is replacing me as showrunner on Community…Why’d Sony want me gone? I can’t answer that because I’ve been in as much contact with them as you have. They literally haven’t called me since the season four pickup, so their reasons for replacing me are clearly none of my business." So, really, like [...]

Alison Brie and Gillian Jacobs Talk Balancing TV and Film

"I felt like I've been doing three years of comedy boot camp, and when the opportunity came to do The Five-Year Engagement, I felt very prepared and confident in my comedic skills because of the training that I got on Community…I also just worked on a film called Get a Job, and my character is odd — sort of inappropriately sexual and just weird — so Dylan Kidd, the director, gave me a lot of freedom to have fun and play around and try to say the weirdest things that I could come up with. I know that he is a fan of Community as well, so I think that it's the work that I've [...]

Feel John Goodman's Nose-To-Rectum Power In New Community Promo

Because all words before 'rectum' are superfluous: John Goodman's Community promo features him as Greendale's villainous Vice Dean Laybourne, head of the air conditioning repair school, as he over-intimidates Dean Pelton. He should probably know it's really not that necessary to hit the dean with that much raw masculine energy; Pelton probably had a panic attack over whether or not to grow that goatee.

Community's Shirley as Samuel L. Jackson Is Spectacular

Earlier today we heard about Community's upcoming Pulp Fiction homage, but here are some actual images from it and, well, they're pretty amazing. Shirley with sideburns and a fu manchu is perfection. Any guesses as to who the rest of the crew will be playing?

The Story of an Autistic Woman Discovering/Relating to 'Community'

Julia Bascom recounts what it was like first discovering Community as a person with Autism. It's a touching look into, as Julia describes, "what it means to start a new story and see on your screen, for the first time, someone who moves like you."

Community Season Finale (and Season) Wrap-Up

Season three of Community, which seems like it began 17 years ago, due in no small part to a hiatus that momentarily shook the world (a.k.a. the Internet), began with a song. Well, to be fair, it actually started with Jeff literally soaring above the clouds, but semantics.

In less than 60 seconds, “Finally Be Free” accomplishes everything that's so great about the show, and laid out a template for the rest of the season: it was an exaggerated, amusing view of reality, but with enough of an emotional core to keep things grounded, sung by a diverse group of people who love each other and are hoping to [...]

58 Reasons Why I Love Community, One from Every Episode

Before Community aired its first episode in 2009, Joel McHale was the guy from The Soup, known to most only as "The Guy from The Soup"; Gillian Jacobs was the girl who had a topless scene in Choke; Alison Brie was the rarely-seen Trudy on Mad Men; Donald Glover was part of a comedy troupe that made the "bro rape" video; Yvette Nicole Brown was a movie theater manager on Nickelodeon's Drake & Josh; Danny Pudi was the Token Indian in movies like Road Trip: Beer Pong; and Chevy Chase was a has-been.

Now, on the morning/afternoon of their 59th episode together — their last until March? April? May? [...]

Dan Harmon Dives Deep Into His Methods and Motives When Making Community

Vulture has a downright-excellent interview with Community showrunner Dan Harmon today, and if you are a fan of the show, it's an essential read. What, you don't believe me? Well, it's tough to pull just one or two quotes from it, as it's long and in-depth, but here he is discussing his fear that they go too far in absurd directions, to give you a taste: I constantly worry that we've gone too far. I especially worry about that right now. At the end of season one, we decided to end the season itself on a departure episode. And I worry about the volume with which we fantasize [...]

Community Is Prepping a Pulp Fiction Homage

Another day, another crazy Community theme episode. The latest news on an upcoming episode is that Jeff is going to plan a Pulp Fiction themed surprise birthday party for Abed. This will involve playing dress-up, with Shirley dressing like Samuel L. Jackson and Britta as Uma Thurman. Sounds nice and ridiculous. No word on when this one will air, but it's all done, so it'll probably be among the next few new episodes we see.

'Community' Writer Megan Ganz Signs on for Season 4

The writing staff for Community season 4 won't be all new — writer from seasons 2 and 3 and noted Harmon fan Megan Ganz just announced on Twitter that she's signed on for the 13-episode run. Which is a good sign! If she met with new showrunners David Guarascio and Moses Port and decided that they'd do a good job with things, we might as well take some deep breaths and be optimistic too, eh?

Starburns Is Dead, Starburns Will Live Forever

"I’m not an actor. I don’t enjoy waiting around for hours on set, I hate when people touch my eyes and neck (make-up department!), I can’t learn lines quickly (yes, even the amount of lines I get), and I don’t need other actors (Joel McHale) asking me why I never got my teeth fixed." — Community writer/ex-actor Dino Stamatopoulos on why he pushed to have his character, Starburns, killed off in a surprisingly lengthy and informative article on how the whole thing went down.

Community Promises To Be Less Weird Via Epic Musical Number

Maybe it's just a lesson everyone has to learn while trying to convince my friends to see my one-woman production of Carousel, but people have a hard time believing you won't continue to be obtrusively weird if you insist on singing your promise not to be. “We’re gonna have more fun and be less weird than the first two years combined," Jeff et. al vow in a new Community promo. Meanwhile John Goodman returns as the show's new villain, amid much squealing from Dean Pelton. Come for the musical comedy, stay for the squeals!

Spoiler Alert! Secrets Of Community's Future Foretold At PaleyFest Panel

Community creator Dan Harmon and the cast (minus Donald Glover and Alison Brie, devastatingly) spilled the beans on some spoilers at the Community panel at Paleyfest. Here are some of upcoming plot points we have to look forward to. What, no Fat Neil? Our thirst for Fat Neil cannot be quenched!

  • The upcoming flashback episode consists of 78 scenes and will be riddled with delicious, nutritionally complete Easter eggs
  • Shirley's having that baby sometime between now and the season finale! Reportedly "it will be obvious" who the father is as soon as Shirley gives birth. Unless she or he comes out with a tiny placenta-covered Cosby sweater, [...]
