Yesterday, Samuel L. Jackson asked the Reddit community to write him a 300-word monologue, promising that he'll record a video of himself reading the monologue that gets the most upvotes tonight. Comedian Eugene Mirman (Bob's Burgers, Flight of the Conchords) rose to the challenge and crafted the following crazy 300-word monologue, which you can go to Reddit and support before it's too late and Samuel L. Jackson chooses a boring monologue that isn't written from the perspective of a blowjob glove inventor:
God, I’m so sleepy. My elbow hurts. My knees are bruised. I’ve been up for hours trying to literally fill her pussy with cream cheese. Why? [...]
Standup Andrew Santino has just been voted the winner of The New York Times 2nd Annual Comedy Challenge, in which six up-and-comers all perform their best jokes and viewers to select a winner. Santino narrowly beat out Last Comic Standing's Carmen Lynch. It's good news for Andrew Santino, even though there's no official prize – cash or otherwise – because The New York Times hates supporting struggling artists.
Oh, thank god, Louie is coming back in a couple of weeks for its third season. In anticipation of that, we've got two sets of season 2 Blu-rays on hand to give away. Want one of em? It's easy! Just come up with a potential plotline that you would love to see happen on season 3. We know folks such as Jerry Seinfeld and Marc Maron will be appearing, but don't let that limit your imagination. Here are a couple of examples to get you started:
-Louie takes LSD with Reggie Watts and goes for a hot air balloon ride -Louie gets trapped in a cave and hallucinates [...]
Halle and I saw The Trip, the new Michael Winterbottom movie starring Steve Coogan and Rob Brydon, at the Tribeca Film Fest, and loved it. It's so great, you guys! Just read Halle's review, if you don't believe me. And now, if you're in NYC, we're gonna give you a chance to see if for free. We're giving three pair of tickets away for showings of The Trip at IFC later today via the Splitsider Twitter account. Here's a preview from this week's Funny or Die's Billy on the Street, in which host Billy Eichner asks a woman named Peaches quiz questions about disgusting sex acts in front of a portrait of Mr. Rogers. The episode airs tonight at 10/9c on Fuse and features super special guest star, Billy Eichner's Funny or Die boss Will Ferrell. It's not like when your boss comes to visit you at work because your job probably isn't running around the streets of New York, screaming at strangers about pop culture like a maniac.
As if Arrested Development fans weren’t already excited enough for the show to come back, Netflix just announced a new contest where six AD enthusiasts will win walk-on roles in the upcoming season. Named after the line from the show “You’re gonna get some hop-ons,” the “You’re Gonna Get Some Walk-Ons” Fan Contest is now open to entries. Rules and details are available on the official website, but, basically, they’re looking for fans to create an original work (a video, photo, art, etc.) to win. To be fair, anybody that wins should probably hand their walk-on role over to the guy who played Steve Holt because [...]
Nothing says "Merry Christmas, family!" like wearing a very ugly, very tacky sweater featuring a snowman with a carrot-and-coal penis (modeled above by handsome Fallon blogger Josh Lay). Let your parents know that they didn't raise you quite right by wearing this wonderful piece of poor taste to the holiday dinner table! Our friends over at Late Night with Jimmy Fallon have been giving away similarly terrible sweaters this month as part of their "12 Days of Christmas Sweaters," but they ended up with some extras and were nice enough to offer this specimen of wrongness to us. And we want to give it to one of you!
Last month, the folks behind Arrested Development's upcoming Netflix season announced a contest, in which fans were encouraged to submit Arrested Development-inspired art, videos, and photos for a chance to win a walk-on role on the show. Now, the contest is over, and here's what the six winners turned in, so that those of you who didn't make the cut can have someone to focus your jealousy and rage on:
Big Bang Theory is sending a fan to space. The winner's name is Mercedes Becerra and she sure won the Mercedes of prizes. (Well, I guess a Mercedes would be the Mercedes of prizes but Mercedes can't go to space, sooooo…) This is after one of the show's main characters, Howard Wolowitz, went to space last season. It must be pretty, pretty nice to be super popular and able to afford silly, amazing things like this. It was also announced at Comic-Con that Community will be sending a fan to their local Subway with an almost fully-punched free sub card.
Tonight, IFC Films is opening The Catechism Cataclysm, starring Eastbound and Down's Steve Little as a priest who lost his way. Both Little and director Todd Rohal will be on hand for the 8:15pm screening tonight at the IFC Center in NYC to answer questions, and the movie will be playing in full force daily after that, so you should go check it out.
And in honor of the opening of The Catechism Cataclysm, the nice folks at IFC have given me a pretty badass DVD pack to give away. It includes Joan Rivers: A Piece of Work, The Trip, In The Loop, and Super & Septien; [...]
