'How I Met Your Mother's Final Season Is Taking Place Over One Weekend

The President of CBS revealed some surprising information about how the ninth and final season of How I Met Your Mother will play out this, so, needless to say, if you don't want recent/future stuff spoiled, stop reading this now. Last week's Season 8 finale featured the audience finally catching a glimpse of the titular mother, played by Cristin Milioti (Sleepwalk with Me), but she didn't end up actually meeting Ted. Co-creator Carter Bays previously said the final season will tell "the epic story of the longest wedding weekend ever," and CBS boss Nina Tassler confirmed to TV Line today that the entire 24-episode season will take [...]

Steve Carell Will Be in the 'Office' Finale After All

Steve Carell has been saying for over a year now that he doesn't want to come back for The Office's May 16th finale and showrunner Greg Daniels denied Carell's involvement in the final episode as recently as last week, but despite all that, TV Line reports today that Carell will be back to say goodbye one last time. TV Line's source says that Carell's appearance in the last episode is closer to a cameo than a full-on guest appearance, but he will allegedly be in the episode somewhere – unless this is just another lie in this constantly flip-flopping story.

David Letterman Grills Mindy Kaling About Whether Steve Carell Is in the 'Office' Finale or Not

While Steve Carell has said he won't be returning as Michael Scott for The Office's finale May 16th, word came in a couple weeks ago that "producers mounted an 11th hour effort last month to coax Carell into making a cameo." Last night, David Letterman took the opportunity to grill Mindy Kaling on the matter, but didn't really get anything out of her. Any guesses on whether Michael Scott makes one last appearance or not?

Tonight's 'Parks and Rec' Was Written as a Potential Finale Because NBC Originally Ordered a Shorter Season

Hitfix's Alan Sepinwall has a long interview with Parks and Recreation co-creator/showrunner Mike Schur today, in which he reveals they made the first of tonight's two new episodes a possible series finale because NBC had only ordered a 13-episode season originally. The network ordered nine more episodes for a full 22 shortly after the episode was filmed, but the writers made it a special episode with a sense of closure just in case. Here's Schur explaining the situation:

"The way we operate every year is we that don't know what our future is. So we try to tell the juiciest, most interesting stories we can tell. And at the end [...]

'The Office' Finale Extended from 60 to 75 Minutes

NBC announced today that The Office's finale, airing a week from Thursday on May 16th, will be extended from 60 to 75 minutes. An hour-long Office retrospective will air from 8 to 9pm and the final episode will air from 9 to 10:15pm. Greg Daniels told TV Line in March, "I was very excited with the footage we got. It’s very big. I’m going to beg NBC to super-size it or extend it." This quote prompted Office fans to make a petition to get NBC to extend the episode, racking up over 20,000 signatures and causing NBC to acquiesce to fans' and Daniels's request.

'Happy Endings' Boss on Tonight's "Satisfying" Season Finale

The final two episodes of Happy Endings' third season air tonight on ABC, and, while the show's fate is uncertain right now, co-showrunner Jonathan Groff is confident that the last episode will serve as either a strong season or series finale. "Obviously, we want to go on, but if this is it, I don't think any Happy Endings fan would be disappointed," Groff tells TV Guide. While the show has been earning low ratings all season (partly as a result of ABC moving it around the schedule a bit), there's been talk about cable network USA picking up Happy Endings for a fourth year. Groff seems confident that ABC could [...]

'The IT Crowd' Is Coming Back for a Finale, Filming This Month

Beloved British sitcom The IT Crowd is coming back for an extra-long finale episode after ending its run in 2010. Bleeding Cool reports that creator Graham Linehan announced at a Q&A in Germany that the 40-minute special is set to start filming in three weeks after two-plus years of pre-production and delays. The show ended its four season run in 2010 and was renewed for a fifth season, but the fifth season was never made and everyone involved has been talking about wrapping things up with a special finale for years now. Stars Chris O'Dowd, Richard Ayoade, Katherine Parkinson, and Matt Berry will all be returning for the last [...]

Greg Daniels Confirms There Won't Be a Surprise Steve Carell Cameo in the 'Office' Finale

Steve Carell has been saying for over a year now that he doesn't have an interest in returning to The Office for the finale because he's happy with how he left his character. Showrunner/creator Greg Daniels said months ago that Carell wouldn't be back, but reports surfaced a couple weeks ago that the show's "producers mounted an 11th hour effort … to coax Carell into making a cameo." The mystery continued this week as Mindy Kaling refused to answer David Letterman's question about whether or not Carell would return.

Greg Daniels put these rumors to rest once and for all today in a conference call to [...]

Will Steve Carell Be Back for 'The Office' Finale After All?

While Steve Carell has said he has no interest in returning for The Office's series finale, TV Line reports today that "producers mounted an 11th hour effort last month to coax Carell into making a cameo" in the finale. TV Line's source refused to confirm or deny whether the effort was successful, but Carell was on set for the shooting of the final episode. Greg Daniels and the network declined to comment, while one of Carell's representatives said that, although he was on set, he didn't film anything. Despite that, a source on the show cryptically told TV Line, "Don't rule anything out." The finale airs May [...]

On 'Girls'

Last night, the first season of Girls ended and I couldn’t help but think of a comment on our last post about the show:

Don’t get me wrong, Lena has hit the head squarely in terms of entertainment. However, as speaking for a voice of a generation, what generation is that—overtly Anglo, upper-middle class, self-absorbed and self-critiqued with a pronounced gumption for entitlement coupled with at best, dubious work ethic…if so, then yes, she does speak for those folks.

Yes. That is exactly whom she speak for or as. Girls is a show that captures one of the worst parts of the current worst generation ever* and that [...]
