Here's Everyone Who Was at Stefon's Wedding

Stefon and Anderson Cooper's wedding on Saturday Night Live this weekend was jam-packed with appearances from characters and creatures Stefon had mentioned in previous Weekend Update reports. We freeze-framed our way through the scene to offer you this guide to all of Stefon's wedding guests. From Gizblow the coked-up Gremlin to DJ Baby Bok Choy, they're all here:

How to Build the Ultimate Black Comedian

You can’t get through life as a black person without a sense of humor. The setup and premises of life all too often leave you the butt of the joke. That’s why most contemporary black folk have a little “Comedy BlackPack” in them. A little Richard Pryor, a little Eddie Murphy, a little Chris Rock, and finally some Dave Chappelle: This is the Mount Rushmore of contemporary black comedy. And the future of black comedy, the ideal up-and-comer — the Black Comedian 3000, if you will — takes a little from each to form his own shtick.

A Fairly Comprehensive Guide to Comedy Podcasts

UPDATE: Come check out the newer, much-expanded version of this guide: A Seriously Comprehensive Guide to Comedy Podcasts. It's this guide, plus tens more podcasts with in-depth reviews!

With the recent explosion in podcasts, it seems we are in the midst of a new comedic golden age. The distance between performers and fans has never been smaller, and more and more comics are taking advantage by increasing their output, like an army of Lil Waynes armed to the teeth with mixtapes. The market is now saturated with comedy podcasts containing trace elements of late night talk show, sketch fest, improv exercise, intimate stand-up session, and backroom history lesson [...]

Louis C.K. Walks Through the Misery of Making a Television Pilot

Here's something Louis C.K. wrote in 2006 about the process of making a TV pilot. Honestly, it sounds so painful it's a wonder anyone wants to make television shows at all. And who better to talk about something as miserable as that than Louis C.K.?

Monday: table read. The network and studio come and watch the actors read the script. Then they give the writers notes. Sometimes the notes are staggering like “We don’t know if the main point of the story is really that good or funny.” And you have to insanely re-invent everything. This is probably not going to be a television show now. Just the [...]

A Somewhat Obsessive Guide to the Addition of SNL Seasons 26-30 to Netflix Streaming

When I put together the first Somewhat Obsessive Guide to All 36 Seasons of SNL Streaming on Netflix, Netflix had yet to post seasons 26-30. That has since been corrected! So here's my guide to those five seasons, featuring Tina Fey and Jimmy Fallon's first episodes on the Weekend Update desk, Conan O'Brien's hosting gig, and the first show after 9/11. All of this is being edited into the original guide, so feel free to go bookmark that for reference, as it now includes all 36 seasons. Happy streaming!

Better Tape Nick Offerman & Chris Pratt's Apocalypse Guide to Your Bunker Wall Now

Parks & Rec's Nick Offerman and Chris Pratt have written a guide to surviving the 2012 Mayan apocalypse, and it's full of whiskey and bears and woodworking. In other words, it's exactly like Nick Offerman's regular life.

3. Assemble a posse of hooligan underlings, choosing a mix of muscular physiques and corpulent ones. Harvest fat from the chubbies and cook the muscular folks in it. When the fatties run out of cellulite to harvest, they are now prime, lean cooking specimens. Obviously you'll need to be fattening up new "team members" as you go, perpetuating the savory cycle.

Obedient, chubby team members? Finally Jerry will be useful for [...]

A Somewhat Obsessive Guide to All 36 Seasons of SNL Streaming on Netflix

With hundreds of episodes from each season of Saturday Night Live finally available on Netflix Instant Watch, we thought we'd put together a few of the highlights to help you get your bearings. Obviously, it's an overwhelming amount of material that's available, so this guide will help point you to interesting or historic episodes, notable guest hosts, and where the appearances are of classic characters.

It should be noted that a few of the seasons are still not yet available, specifically seasons 26-30. Netflix will presumably be adding those at some point, and we'll update this guide when they do. But until then, here's a somewhat obsessive guide [...]
