Funny Or Die Is Responsible for Hoverboard Viral Video Hoax

Earlier this week, a company called HUVr posted a YouTube video announcing the first commercially-available hoverboards featuring Christopher Lloyd, Tony Hawk, and Moby, but it turns out it's all a hoax and comedy website Funny Or Die is behind it. Mashable reports that the hoax was foiled when a costume designer who worked on the video posted it to her online resume. The HUVr website claims that the technology was developed out of MIT by materials science, electricity & magnetism experts who've solved an important part of one of science's mysteries: the key to antigravity. The video quickly racked up over 4 million views in less [...]

Jimmy Kimmel Plays a Bunch of Media Reactions to His YouTube Hoax

Yesterday, Jimmy Kimmel revealed his show was behind a viral YouTube video of a woman dancing and catching fire that even tricked Jimmy Fallon. Here's Kimmel on last night's show, addressing the situation and playing a bunch of clips from TV shows reporting on the hoax.

Andy Kaufman Is Not Alive, You Dummies

Michael Kaufman, brother of the late comedian Andy Kaufman, took the stage at the annual Andy Kaufman Awards Monday night and said that Andy sent him a letter in 1999 saying that he was living a quiet life with his wife and daughter. Then, a woman claiming to be Andy Kaufman's 24-year-old daughter, which would make her born four years after his death, went onstage and had a conversation with Michael Kaufman.

As you can assume with "Andy Kaufman is alive" stuff, it turns out the whole thing was a hoax.

The Smoking Gun uncovered the true identity of "Kaufman's daughter." She's a 24-year-old New York actress named [...]

Jimmy Kimmel Reveals a Video of a Twerking Girl Catching on Fire Was a Hoax, and He Was Behind It

Last night on Jimmy Kimmel Live, Kimmel revealed that his show was responsible for creating an internet video known as "Worst Twerk Fail EVER - Girl Catches Fire!," in which a woman is dancing for the camera but falls on a bunch of candles and lights her pants on fire. The video racked up over 9.5 million hits in just a week, but Kimmel and his crew made it with stuntwoman Daphne Avalon. This isn't the first time a comedian has done something like this. Last year, Comedy Central's Nathan Fielder made a hoax video of a pig rescuing a baby goat from drowning that also proved very popular [...]

Everything You Thought You Knew Was a Lie: @Horse_ebooks Is a Fake "Art Project"

What's real? What's an illusion? Can you ever trust anything on the internet? Can you ever even trust another human being? Are we all just tied up in a cave, watching shadows on a wall that we think are real life? These are the foundation-shaking questions raised by the shocking news that beloved Twitter account @Horse_ebooks was not, as people assumed, a rouge spam bot, but was instead a secret, human-controlled "art project" by Jacob Bakkila and Thomas Bender.

If you're unfamiliar with the @Horse_ebooks phenomenon, we dove deep on it last year. But all of that research and conjecture turns out to have been [...]

No One Gave Craig Rowin a Million Dollars

So you know how Craig Rowin asked for a million dollars, and then apparently some crazy millionaire was going to give it to him? Well, last night was the "ceremony" in which said millionaire was going to hand over the check but — surprise! — it was a hoax.

Of course, if a real millionaire had offered to give him a million dollars, this whole thing probably wouldn't have been a hoax. But since the world works based on logic and people with that much money generally just don't hand it out to people who ask, this was the next best result.
