IFC Has Shows in Development from Chris Gethard, Garfunkel and Oates, Megan Mullally, and More

IFC today unveiled its development slate, made up of three pilots and eight script orders, all of them comedies. Steve Carell Will Star in a Movie About an FBI Wedding

Steve Carell is attached to star in and produce a new comedy revolving around an FBI wedding, Deadline reports. Writer David Flebotte (Boardwalk Empire, Will & Grace) has been hired to re-write a script by Phil Alden Robinson (Field of Dreams, All of Me). There's no word on what the plot entails, but the story has been described as being similar to Stakeout and My Best Friend's Wedding. Carell has been keeping especially busy with movies lately. Conan O'Brien Is Producing a Fox Comedy from a 'Community' Writer

TV development season is winding down, but Conan O'Brien just sold a new sitcom to Fox that he'll produce through his company Conaco, Deadline reports. Fox has given a script order for a pilot to the show, called Bob's New Heart Show (a play on the title of The Bob Newhart Show). It's a single-camera medical comedy written by Ben Wexler (Community, The Good Guys, Still Standing) and revolving around "a young hotshot doctor who, after receiving a heart transplant, re-evaluates his life and takes over the small family practice in the working-class neighborhood where he grew up." Don't Worry, Dane Cook and Justin Bieber Are Both Working on New Network Sitcoms

Universally beloved media personalities Dane Cook and Justin Bieber are both developing new sitcoms for big TV networks, Deadline and TV Guide report. Cook doesn't have a show yet but he just signed a new development deal with NBC to make a series that will serve starring vehicle for himself. He recently starred in the comedy Next Caller, which was picked up for six episodes by NBC but unexpectedly canceled before it aired because the network was unhappy with the creative direction of the show. ABC Is Developing a Cop Comedy from 'Community' Writer Andy Bobrow

ABC just put into development a new sitcom called Rookie, about a woman in her 20s who attempts to reinvent herself by becoming a cop, in turn finding a surrogate family amongst her fellow police officers. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the show was created by longtime Community writer Andy Bobrow, who will also serve as executive producer alongside Easy A director Will Gluck. Rory Scovel Joins the Cast of Bill Lawrence's TBS Pilot

Stand-up Rory Scovel, who you may know from his series of amazing Conan appearances (see below), has been added to the cast of a new TBS pilot from Spin City/Scrubs/Cougar Town creator Bill Lawrence, Deadline reports. Co-created by Lawrence and Greg Malins, the show is called Ground Floor, and it follows an Ivy League grad (Skylar Astin) who falls for his office's high school-educated maintenance supervisor (Briga Heelan). John C. McGinley, James Earl, and Rene Gube also star. Scovel will play a character named Harvard, who got his nickname because he was the only one on his co-workers to go past high school and attend community college. [...]

Jason Schwartzman and Jonathan Ames Are Making Another Movie Together, Not 'Bored to Death'

Earlier this week, we reported that HBO officially greenlit a movie based on its cult hit series Bored to Death, but now, word comes in via The Hollywood Reporter that Bored to Death creator Jonathan Ames and star Jason Schwartzman are making a second movie together on top of that one. The duo has optioned Bernard Malamud's collection of short stories Pictures of Fidelman, which follows an art student in Rome in the 1950s. Schwartzman would star as Arthur Fidelman with filming to take place in Rome. 'The Office' and 'Parks and Rec' Mastermind Greg Daniels Sells a Tennis Comedy to Fox

Greg Daniels, creator of the U.S. version of The Office and co-creator of Parks and Recreation and King of the Hill, just put another comedy into development at Fox, according to The Hollywood Reporter. It's an untitled single camera show about a mediocre tennis pro named Richie who returns to his college town in order to get his life together. 'We Hate Paul Revere' Might Be AMC's First Comedy

The AMC network has been dominating the TV drama world ever since Mad Men and Breaking Bad launched in 2007/08, but the network has yet to launch an original comedy to join its wave of critically-acclaimed dramas. That may change soon as AMC is developing a Colonial Boston sitcom called We Hate Paul Revere, Deadline reports. Fox Orders Animated Series 'Murder Police' from Ex-'Family Guy' Producer

Fox just placed a 13-episode order for a new animated show called Murder Police from former Family Guy showrunner/Futurama writer David A. Goodman and Jason Ruiz. Deadline reports that Murder Police will follow "a dedicated but inept detective and his partner in a twisted city precinct as they try to solve serious crimes." It's the first new animated show Fox has ordered since 2010, when the network picked up Napoleon Dynamite and Jonah Hill's Allen Gregory for six and seven episodes, respectively, before swiftly canceling both. Lennon Parham and Jessica St. Clair Are Making a New Show Together for USA

Lennon Parham and Jessica St. Clair, stars and creators of last season's short-lived but critically-acclaimed NBC comedy Best Friends Forever, are moving to cable for their new show. Deadline reports that USA has ordered a pilot presentation (a.k.a. short pilot) written by and starring Parham and St. Clair. 'Zombieland' TV Show Moving Forward, Slowly

The prospect of a TV show based on the movie Zombieland was first floated in late 2011 when Fox was developing the half-hour show, but since then, there haven't been any updates about the project… until now. Ben Stiller Producing a Michael Ian Black Family Sitcom for ABC

Ben Stiller's company Red Hour Productions is developing a new family sitcom pilot for ABC, starring and is written by Michael Ian Black, Vulture reports. The show, called You're Not Doing It Right, is based on Black's memoir of the same name, which was released earlier this year. Executive produced by Stiller and Black, it's a comedy about modern marriage and parenting set in Connecticut, where Black and his family reside in real life. Hannibal Buress Cast in 2013's Zillionth Cop Comedy

It seems like for every two days these past few months, a TV network has announced a new comedy about cops. Today is no exception, as ABC just put a new cop comedy starring acclaimed stand-up Hannibal Buress into development, Deadline reports. Co-created by Buress, who is a former 30 Rock and SNL writer, and Rob Sheridan, a Canadian writer who's worked on the Great White North comedies Little Mosque on the Prairie and 18 to Life, the single camera sitcom is inspired by Buress's stand-up and will star him as a small town cop.
